The Director of Claims will manage a team that handles and evaluates complex cyber/professional liability, FI, cargo and other commercial lines claims. The role is also responsible for directing the litigation management process, analyzing coverage issues, and resolving claims disputes.  This individual will develop and maintain strong relationships with both external and internal customers in an effort to increase productivity with a focus on achieving claims handling excellence. You will also provide proactive management of claims by focusing efforts toward expedient and equitable resolutions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of claims professionals that investigates, negotiates, and manages complex claims
  • Utilize knowledge of insurance contracts, claims investigations, and vendor management to recommend appropriate claim reserves
  • Control litigation and expense management
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the Corvus Smart Breach Response team to assist policyholders in pre-breach and post-breach support services
  • Assist team by analyzing primary and excess coverage, helping make coverage determinations, and reviewing draft coverage correspondence
  • Attend mediations and/or settlement conferences where appropriate
  • Ensure effective communication between claims team and policyholders
  • Appoint and manage defense counsel; assist in developing and maintaining Panel Counsel list
  • Establish an effective risk management structure
  • Ensure well documented claim file notes
  • Proactively work toward economic resolution of claims
  • Maintain frequent interaction with Underwriting team to communicate claim developments and trends
  • Responsible for implementation, monitoring and reporting on results of assigned special projects
  • Have an excellent understanding and demonstrated ability to apply the technical aspects of claim handling
  • Drive employee engagement by exhibiting passion about the company, values, business and our customers

Qualifications

  • College degree; J.D. preferred
  • Bar admission in good standing, if applicable
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience handling complex commercial lines claims
  • Ability to make prompt, intelligent decisions based upon detailed analysis of complex issues
  • Experience drafting or reviewing litigation budgets
  • Ability to analyze liability and potential damages exposure
  • Ability to meet timelines
  • Strong ability to establish rapport and build relationships with clients
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Licensed as an insurance adjuster in all 50 states or willing to pursue in first 6 months of employment
