About the Role:

As the company’s second legal hire, you will work closely with our Head of Legal in shaping a high-performing team and defining Panorama’s overall legal strategy.  If you enjoy problem solving and working through complex and nuanced legal and business issues, keep reading!  You can expect to lead projects that drive business impact and for this role to evolve as the company continues its rapid growth.   

Responsibilities:

  • You’ll provide guidance to the company on various legal and business matters based on relevant laws and in consideration of our company values and objectives.  
  • You’ll advise on and negotiate commercial and data privacy agreements.
  • You’ll support strategic business transactions and initiatives, including by conducting privacy due diligence.
  • You’ll work on cross-functional projects related to data governance, protection and privacy by design, including program and impact assessments, audits, incident response planning, policy and procedure development and training.  One of your initial areas of focus will be to collaborate with our Head of Information Security, Vice President of Marketing, and Director of Research and other company leaders to design and execute a new information privacy program.  
  • You’ll partner closely with leadership across departments to identify and resolve data privacy and other legal issues at the outset of new product lines, projects and business initiatives.
  • You’ll collaborate with the communications and support teams in responding to inquiries and requests relating to the company’s information practices and data subject access rights.


Qualifications and Experience

  • JD and membership in good standing with at least one state bar 
  • 5+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience, advising on data privacy matters and aligning a matrixed organization to a consistent privacy strategy 
  • Substantive knowledge of U.S. privacy laws and regulations, including, CCPA, CPRA, COPPA, and CAN-SPAM
  • Experience drafting and negotiating data privacy agreements
  • Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Ability to explain legal issues to business and technology-focused partners and develop practical solutions
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with a proven ability to solve complex compliance issues and articulate sound reasoning
  • Proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving with an ability to adapt to shifting priorities and meet deadlines; works well under pressure and is comfortable working with imperfect information
  • Conscientious and collaborative

Plus Points

  • CIPP (IAPP) or other privacy certification
  • Knowledge of student data specific privacy laws, such as FERPA, PPRA, SOPPA in Illinois and SOPIPA in California
  • In-house experience scaling business and legal processes and policies for a rapidly growing SaaS company
