About the role:
We are looking for an experienced Privacy and Commercial Legal Counsel to join our legal team. This is an amazing opportunity to be the second legal function in a fast-growing and dynamic organization. As a Privacy and Commercial Legal Counsel, you will play a vital role in ensuring our organization’s compliance with privacy laws. You will report to the VP Legal, and work closely with cross-functional teams to address privacy-related legal matters.
What You’ll Get To Do:
- Provide ongoing legal consulting and guidance on data privacy, security, and compliance matters, with a focus on applicable laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, etc.
- Draft and negotiate various commercial agreements and privacy-related contracts, including publishing and advertising agreements, data processing agreements, vendor agreements, employment agreements and other related documents.
- Develop, implement, and update privacy policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with data protection laws and best practices.
- Ensure that the Organization’s legal interests are secured.
- Lead data breach incident response efforts, working with the Security and Product teams to investigate, mitigate, and report data breaches as required by law.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments and risk assessments to identify potential data protection issues and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including IT, Security, Sales, Product, and HR teams, to establish and maintain data protection measures and protocols.
- Provide guidance on developments in privacy laws and industry standards and advise the organization on any necessary changes to ensure compliance.
The Skills and Experience You Bring:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active member in good standing of a US State Bar Association
- Admitted to the NY Bar is a plus!
- 3+ years of experience serving as in-house counsel at a technology company, preferably within the AdTech industry, with a focus on data privacy, security, and commercial contracting.
- Minimum of 5+ years of legal experience in the Data Privacy department of a leading law firm or a technology company.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant privacy regulations, including GDPR and CCPA.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a business mindset and strategic thinking.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks under tight deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification is preferred.
- Experience in the AdTech industry is a plus.
What You'll Get:
Our Privacy & Commercial Legal Counsel compensation package includes an annual salary ranging between $160,000 and $210,000 (based on the candidate's experience and skill set). Additionally, this role is eligible for equity and benefits, including:
