Revolutionizing the Post-Purchase Experience Empowering Merchants with AI-Driven Solutions

Extend is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its dynamic legal team, supporting the company’s mission to transform the post-purchase journey for retailers and their customers. As Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in a fast-paced technology environment, providing legal guidance across a broad spectrum of matters that are central to Extend’s growth and operations.

In this role, you will independently lead contract drafting and negotiations for a variety of commercial agreements, advise on regulatory, intellectual property, employment, and international issues, and support strategic transactions. You will collaborate closely with teams across revenue, marketing, People/HR, programs, finance, engineering, and product, as well as senior leadership, ensuring legal processes are refined and scalable as the company grows.

The ideal candidate brings a J.D. from an A.B.A.-accredited law school, 3-5 years of experience at a top law firm (with in-house experience preferred), and is admitted to and in good standing with a state bar. Strong judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential, as is a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to legal challenges.

This is an opportunity to help build and scale the legal function at a rapidly growing company, supporting public company readiness and global corporate administration. Candidates should be excited to work cross-functionally and tackle novel, complex issues in a collaborative environment.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)

  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
