Virta Health is on a mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people. Current treatment approaches aren’t working—over half of US adults have either type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, and obesity rates are at an all-time high. Virta is changing this by helping people reverse their metabolic condition through innovations in technology, personalized nutrition, and virtual care delivery reinvented from the ground up. We have raised over $350 million from top-tier investors, and partner with the largest health plans, employers, and government organizations to help their employees and members restore their health and take back their lives. Join us on our mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people.

The L&D Manager owns the end-to-end design, delivery, measurement, and continuous improvement of Virta’s leadership and manager development programs. This role also increases the speed, scalability, and leverage of L&D through smarter workflows, automation, and AI-enabled approaches.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong facilitation capability, analytical rigor, and modern operating approaches.

Responsibilities
  • Independently own all manager leadership development programming, Manager Foundations & Effectiveness Cohort Program, Leadership Skill-Building Series, Future Leader Readiness Program, and Orientation Leadership Program.

  • Facilitate programs directly and enable others to facilitate (including influencing executive leaders and non-L&D employees) effectively

  • Define business-specific success metrics and implement feedback loops for all programs

  • Analyze data and proactively recommend improvements or changes real time (#risk-taking and rapid iteration)

  • Partner with Specialist on manager onboarding

  • Identify opportunities to increase efficiency, reach, and impact leveraging AI and automation to accelerate program design, delivery, feedback synthesis, and iteration

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • Assume full end-to-end ownership of existing manager and leadership programs including facilitation, operations, measurement and iteration

  • Maintain clear success metrics and feedback loops for all owned programs, setting baselines, defining and executing on how impact will be measured and improved over time

  • Diagnose strengths and gaps across the current learning and development portfolio and recommend real-time improvements based on data and observed outcomes

  • Design at least one new leadership program end-to-end (e.g., Future Leader Readiness or Orientation Leadership), from outcomes and experience design through pilot delivery and measurement

  • Partner closely with the L&D Specialist on manager onboarding, aligning leadership expectations, delivery, and reinforcement

  • Identify and pilot opportunities to increase speed and scale, including the use of AI or automation to reduce manual effort in program design, facilitation, or feedback synthesis

Must-Haves
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, Talent Development, and Leadership Development within a corporate or scaled organizational setting

  • Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of learning or leadership development programs, including design, delivery, measurement, and iteration (beyond facilitation-only or delivery roles)

  • Exceptional live facilitation skills – demonstrated ability to lead engaging, interactive learning sessions for managers and leaders, confidently manage group dynamics in real time, and adapt delivery based on audience needs.

  • Experience scaling programs or learning experiences, where increasing reach, consistency, efficiency, or sustainability was an explicit objective

  • Proven ability to define and use success metrics (quantitative and qualitative) to evaluate direct business impact and drive continuous improvement

  • Experience operating independently in a cross-functional environment, setting priorities, influencing stakeholders, and making recommendations without day-to-day direction

  • Practical experience using technology, automation, and AI to improve the speed, scalability, or effectiveness of learning programs or related workflows

Values-driven culture

Virta’s company values drive our culture, so you’ll do well if:

  • You put people first and take care of yourself, your peers, and our patients equally

  • You have a strong sense of ownership and take initiative while empowering others to do the same

  • You prioritize positive impact over busy work

  • You have no ego and understand that everyone has something to bring to the table regardless of experience

  • You appreciate transparency and promote trust and empowerment through open access of information

  • You are evidence-based and prioritize data and science over seniority or dogma

You take risks and rapidly iterate

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
