Lead Writer, Product & Education | Acorns

For most people, money comes loaded with anxiety, avoidance, and years of feeling like the conversation wasn't meant for them. Acorns is changing that—talking to customers like the conversation was always theirs. We like to say that while we manage money, we're really in the business of managing emotions. We're looking for a writer who knows what's at stake.

In this role, you'll own our voice and tone system, set the bar for every word that reaches our customers, and define how our product speaks to millions of everyday families who've never had a financial advisor in their corner. The work covers everything from complex product flows to educational content that meets people right when they're asking their biggest money questions—and you'll bring the ideas, the craft, and the belief that this content could change a customers' financial future.

What you will do at Acorns:

  • Set the standard for our voice: Own our voice and tone guidelines and set the bar for narrative clarity and empathy across every stage of the customer journey — from onboarding flows to error states and educational content.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Build end-to-end customer journeys where interface and language feel like one seamless, trusted conversation.

  • Make the complex feel simple: Transform dense financial mechanics and strict legal requirements into copy that's simple, transparent, and human.

  • Champion the customer: Relentlessly test copy, decode customer feedback, and refine our voice so that every interaction feels like genuine support — wherever someone is in their financial journey.

  • Drive the education agenda: Research and write in-app education that’s relevant and topical, keeping financial wellbeing top of the agenda.

  • Deepen the copy craft: Mentor writers and cross-functional partners, building on a culture that already understands the power of words.

What you'll bring to Acorns:

  • 7+ years of UX and product writing experience: A portfolio that proves you can make complex systems feel simple, with range across microcopy, product flows, and long-form content. Experience in fintech, financial services, or edtech is a genuine plus — but what matters most is that you've written through complexity and owned your work.

  • A self-starter's instinct: You don't wait for a brief. You spot what needs writing, form a point of view, and bring people along with you.

  • A knack for teaching through content: You know how to build financial literacy through the product itself — turning in-app learning moments and articles into something people actually read, remember, and act on.

  • A craftsperson's eye: Deep care for the nuances of language, the rhythm of a button label, and the emotional state of a customer managing their money.

  • Mission-driven execution: Genuine optimism for societal change and a desire to tie your daily craft to a life's mission.

You are not expected to have experience with all listed requirements. If you feel passionate about Acorns' mission, vision, and values, please apply.

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary and stock options

  • A comprehensive benefits package for you and your family

  • Flexible work location, hours, and paid time off

  • 401(k) matching

  • Monthly Acorns account contribution & GoHenry account for your family

  • Mindfulness and Financial Wellness resources, Headspace and Addition Wealth

  • Acorns Career Development Program (Ongoing training sessions, development plans, development check-ins, Cornerstone's online training platform)

  • Roots Leadership Program for Emerging Leaders

  • Community week onsite gatherings and various virtual events

  • Talented and motivated team members who care deeply about one another, our mission, and our customers

  • The rare opportunity to create a new world. We inspire one another every day to do meaningful work that solves big societal challenges.

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
