Job Description

Join our Product Development team as a Mechanical Design Engineer, working in close partnership with Nuvera, Hyster-Yale’s clean energy division advancing fuel cell and hydrogen technologies. In this role, you’ll lead design and development initiatives for fuel cell stack components and assemblies—contributing innovative, sustainable solutions that move industries forward.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead technology and product development projects for fuel cell stack components and assemblies.

  • Develop and refine new product designs and prototypes that balance innovation, quality, cost, and delivery.

  • Conduct engineering analyses to ensure function, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance.

  • Collaborate across disciplines—mechanical, electrical, materials, and manufacturing—to integrate product solutions.

  • Plan and manage project phases, coordinating work with internal and external partners.

  • Support a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability within the engineering team.

Who You Are:

  • Innovative: You’re curious and forward-thinking, always looking for better ways to design and solve problems that lead to impactful, energy-efficient solutions.

  • Analytical: You apply sound engineering judgment and data-driven decision-making to develop reliable, cost-effective designs.

  • Autonomous: You take initiative and thrive when trusted to lead projects with minimal supervision, ensuring progress without constant direction.

  • Collaborative: You value partnership—working seamlessly with cross-functional teams to align designs with broader business and manufacturing goals.

  • Adaptable: You’re comfortable working in evolving technical environments and can pivot as priorities shift in a fast-paced development setting.

  • Communicative: You convey complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, fostering understanding and alignment.

Education:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (M.S. preferred) from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • 7+ years of experience in product development and design.

  • Experience in mechanical design and analysis; familiarity with FEA, CFD, and 3D parametric modeling (SolidWorks or equivalent).

Skills, Abilities, & Experience:

  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFA) and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Exposure to prototype and production processes such as machining, molding, forming, casting, and welding.

  • Comfortable working both in the office and lab environments, including hands-on testing and evaluation.
