Solace is a healthcare advocacy marketplace that connects patients and families to experts who help them understand and take charge of their personal health

About the Role

Solace is looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to join our fast-moving, mission-driven team. You’ll be our in-house expert on DevOps owning the strategy, architecture, and implementation of infrastructure that supports our entire engineering team. This is a hands-on, high-impact role that will empower product engineers to move fast and build with confidence, without needing to worry about what’s under the hood.

We’re seeking someone with deep AWS expertise and a passion for building scalable systems, improving developer velocity, and enabling flawless deployments across our services. You’ll lead the charge in migrating our infrastructure from Heroku to AWS, setting up isolated feature testing environments, monitoring performance, and automating anything that gets in the way of speed and reliability.

You must be a self-starter who thrives in autonomy, leads with conviction, and collaborates tightly with product engineers to streamline workflows and keep application performance fast.

About Solace

Healthcare in the U.S. is fundamentally broken. The system is so complex that 88% of U.S. adults do not have the health literacy necessary to navigate it without help. Solace cuts through the red tape of healthcare by pairing patients with expert advocates and giving them the tools to make better decisions—and get better outcomes.

We're a Series B startup, founded in 2022 and backed by Inspired Capital, Craft Ventures, Torch Capital, Menlo Ventures, and Signalfire. Our fully remote U.S. team is lean, mission-driven, and growing quickly.

Solace isn't a place to coast. We're here to redefine healthcare—and that demands urgency, precision, and heart. If you're looking to stretch yourself, sharpen your edge, and do the best work of your life alongside a team that cares deeply, you're in the right place. We’re intense, and we like it that way.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the DevOps roadmap: Architect and lead the evolution of our infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and developer workflows.

  • Drive our AWS migration: Seamlessly transition infrastructure from Heroku to AWS with zero downtime, ensuring parity and improving reliability and observability.

  • Optimize developer experience: Build tools, abstractions, and automated systems that let software engineers focus purely on writing application code.

  • Enable isolated feature testing: Design and automate the creation/deletion of ephemeral testing environments for every feature branch.

  • Monitor and optimize performance: Set up end-to-end monitoring and alerting systems, identify performance bottlenecks, and collaborate with engineers to address them before they impact users.

  • Secure and scale: Build systems that are secure by design, highly available, and prepared for scale as we grow rapidly.

What You Bring to the Table
  • 5+ years of DevOps/Platform experience, preferably in high-growth startups.

  • Expert-level knowledge of AWS services (EC2, ECS, Lambda, CloudFormation, RDS, CloudWatch, etc.) and a track record deploying applications in production environments.

  • Strong background in setting up CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).

  • Deep focus on developer enablement. You love removing friction, automating everything, and making tools a breeze to use.

  • Experience implementing and scaling monitoring tools/APMs.

  • Familiarity with Heroku and experience leading large-scale migrations from PaaS to IaaS.

  • Fluency in scripting/automation (e.g., Bash, Python, Terraform, Node).

  • Clear communicator who can explain infrastructure tradeoffs and proactively support engineers.

Our Tech Stack
  • Frontend: React / Next.js

  • Backend: Node.js / NestJS

  • Database: PostgreSQL, Redis

  • Infrastructure: Heroku (With plans to migrate to AWS)

This is a remote position. Applicants must be based in the United States.

Up for the Challenge?

We look forward to meeting you.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
