The Lead Front End Engineer will lead architecture, development, and technical standards for BigCommerce projects, focusing on seamless eCommerce solutions and optimal customer experiences.
The Lead Front End Engineer, BigCommerce, reporting to the Engineering Manager will be responsible for architecture, development, and technical leadership of Bigcommerce-based projects.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Own the architectural direction of BigCommerce-based solutions, defining technical standards and making decisions on scalability, performance and extensibility.
- Set and enforce engineering standards, establish review guidelines and drive continuous technical excellence across the team.
- Collaborate with backend teams on API design and integrations to build seamless eCommerce experiences.
- Conduct root cause analysis for production issues, provide strategic solutions, and ensure stability.
- Optimize the customer experience through best UI/UX practices and modern frontend technologies.
- Ensure continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) best practices for efficient development workflows.
- Actively participate in team meetings, Agile ceremonies, and problem-solving discussions.
- Work with project managers and stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals.
- Stay up to date with BigCommerce, eCommerce, and modern web technologies to drive innovation.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in web development with a strong focus on BigCommerce.
- Deep expertise in BigCommerce, Handlebars (Stencil templating), and extending BigCommerce REST and GraphQL APIs for both Storefront and Admin functionalities.
- Strong experience building custom BigCommerce apps, developing Checkout SDK and Checkout UI extensions, and integrating BigCommerce with third-party systems and services.
- Proficiency in modern frontend technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, React.js/Vue.js is a plus).
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and software architecture.
- Experience working with Git, Bitbucket, and managing CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs, payment gateways, ERP, CRM, and other business tools.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and development management tools like JIRA, Confluence.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- English proficiency (B2+) for effective communication in an international environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of headless eCommerce architectures, including BigCommerce’s Open SaaS model, Next.js/React-based storefronts, or other modern frontend frameworks (e.g., PWA Studio, Vue Storefront).
- BigCommerce certification.
- Background in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps practices.
- Understanding of accessibility, performance optimization, and security best practices.

- Experience with Shopify.
