Airbnb’s Design team is looking for a Lead Experience Designer to shape the future of our payments platform and the guest and Host communities that process close to a billion dollars every day. From revolutionizing how guests book for travel, to the tools and ecosystems that empower Hosts to manage their earnings and set revenue goals, you’ll collaborate with industry leaders and innovative technology to reimagine the future of financial services and technology. With a global reach of 63 currencies and 220 countries/markets, you’ll lead initiatives that have tremendous impact.

The difference you will make: 

As a Lead Experience Design, you will be responsible for leading key initiatives and projects related to the core guest and Host experience. You will also provide guidance and strategic support and domain expertise for projects needing payments expertise. You will leverage systems thinking, AI, data visualization, and design systems to deliver beautiful end-to-end user experiences that simplify complex financial information. Your impact will range from the guest experience in finding new financial opportunities for guests to book, to economically empowering Hosts through robust tools providing actionable insights and data heavy experiences that adapt and scale to a diverse and global community. This Lead Experience Designer is an individual contributor (IC) role that will report to a Design Manager.

A typical day:

  • Leads a project or initiative — helps define strategy, objectives and sets the vision for the user experience. Oversees multiple streams of work from insight and strategy, to launch across all platforms and devices.
  • Inspire and direct the team to help them build towards a meaningful vision efficiently.
  • Responsible for advancing craft on their team. Ensures consistency across a variety of products and platforms in the end-to-end user experience. 
  • Defines and evangelizes Airbnb's design language system throughout the organization.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship for a team of Experience Designers through the interaction and visual design of products and services from end-to-end for a global audience.
  • Partner with the Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, Researchers and UX Writers to define problems & goals, map user flows, prototype interactions, and launch new products and services.

As a Lead Experience Designer,  you’re a thought-leader in and outside the organization helping to advance the craft.  You're a hands-on maker at the highest level of craft. You'll pave the way for innovation in not only what we make, but how we make it.

The Lead Experience Designer is an individual contributor (IC) role that will report to a Design Manager. 

You will be responsible for the creation of strategic products and services. Success in this role is defined by team sentiment as well as the quality of the user experience including the impact, consistency, ease of use and design of the final product.

Your expertise:

  • 8+ years of experience with end-to-end product design.
  • Ability to articulate the design process and lead others through it. Can accurately scope their work as well as their teammate's. Responsible for the work of other designers on their project. Can effortlessly motivate and drive small to medium teams to transform a product. 
  • Communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent visual, interaction and/or service design skills.
  • Systems-thinker with the ability to think beyond the pixels and design for offline experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to help a team navigate ambiguity, set vision and strategy for global products.

How We'll Take Care of You:

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

$177,000$204,500 USD
