About the Role:
Veracross is looking for a Junior Quality Assurance (QA) Automation Engineer. As a Quality Engineer, you will be embedded on an Engineering team to create tests, suites and plans, report issues, suggest product and process improvements, and give feedback to provide a great end user experience. As a Junior QA Automation Engineer, you will create and execute both manual and automated tests. Communication, documentation, and organization skills are important as you’ll collaborate with Product Management, Development, QA peers, DevOps and Customer Support to verify the quality of our products and features.
This role is focused on our Financial Technology product area where we have product teams that focus on key areas for our schools in Accounting, Student Billing, and Payments.
The Accounting product is used by schools to manage their general ledger and accounts payable/accounts receivable.
The Student Billing product is used by schools to manage charges, payments, and statements for students and their families.
The Payments product is focused on building and improving our online payments platform, VC Pay, as well as supporting our payment integrations with other products within Veracross.
Having an all-in-one integrated billing, accounting, and school information system improves the lives of school staff and families as it brings otherwise complex workflows into one streamlined systems.
Our engineering team is remote-friendly, distributed, and has employees in a variety of states and contractors in several countries. While our headquarters is in Wakefield, MA and proximity to this location is a plus, candidates are encouraged to apply from anywhere.
What to expect:
- A mix of manual and automated testing for new features and bug validation
- Collaborate with Engineering and Product Management to refine, design, and define tests
- Collaborate on test strategies for new and existing features and third-party integrations
- Create, prioritize, and organize test cases into logical suites and plans
- Perform cross-platform Web and Mobile testing
- Document features and processes
- Log and help prioritize issues
- Proactively investigate issues in collaboration with developers
- Use product expertise to teach others on product specifics and increase test coverage
- Identify and seek information needed to test
- Work in an Agile environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal communication
- Experience with accounting applications, such as Quickbooks, Freshbooks, Xero, or Sage
- Understanding of core accounting standards and concepts, including but not limited to: GAAP, General Ledger, and Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable
- Cross-functional collaboration skills
- Great attention to detail and an inquisitive mind
- A passion for delivery a quality product for all types of users
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to think beyond the scope of the single ticket to include additional related areas
- 1-2+ years of QA and/or engineering experience
- Experience with Mac, Windows and mobile platforms
Nice to Haves
- Experience with payment processing applications
- Experience with SQL and relational databases
- Experience with no-code/low-code test automation tools (like Reflect, RainforestQA or BugBug)
- Experience with writing automated tests in code, such as in RSpec for Ruby or things like with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, etc.

Salary at Veracross is determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience. The compensation range for this position is $70k to $100k (annualized USD) in addition to potential bonus.
