We are seeking a Junior Data Scientist/Research Analyst Intern to join our Corporate Marketing and Thought Leadership teams. The intern will perform quantitative research to investigate important labor market issues, support client engagements, and improve the data available for Lightcast products, while also contributing to marketing-focused research efforts such as media requests, blogs, and corporate research projects.

Lightcast’s research is driving the national conversation around critical issues in the job market and is frequently cited in national publications such as the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and The Economist. The Research Analyst will play a vital role in supporting Lightcast’s public and client-based research, as well as developing cutting-edge analytics to provide insight to power Lightcast products and enhance marketing initiatives. This role is uniquely positioned at the intersection of data science and marketing, offering opportunities to apply analytical skills to craft compelling narratives that inform Lightcast’s media presence and support our broader marketing strategy.

Major Responsibilities

  • Analyze and validate labor market and workforce data to identify emerging trends and skill needs.
  • Develop clear, engaging data visualizations that translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Support marketing and communications efforts by preparing data-driven content for reports, blogs, and media outreach.
  • Execute and refine data queries using Lightcast’s proprietary database and other public data sources; ensure data quality and accuracy.
  • Contribute to client-facing research projects in sectors such as higher education, workforce development, and human capital management.
  • Write concise, insightful summaries of research findings for both internal and external audiences.

Education and Experience

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in research, analytics, consulting, or marketing preferred.
  • Skilled in data manipulation and analysis using tools such as SQL, R, or Python.
  • Experience building data visualizations in Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint, or R.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex findings into clear, accessible insights.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and intellectually curious — with an interest in connecting data insights to marketing and storytelling.

Lightcast is a global leader in labor market insights with offices in Moscow, ID (US), the United Kingdom, Europe, and India. We work with partners across six continents to help drive economic prosperity and mobility by providing the insights needed to build and develop our people, our institutions and companies, and our communities.

Lightcast is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status. Lightcast has always been, and always will be, committed to our diversity of thought and unique perspectives. We seek dynamic professionals from all backgrounds to join our teams, and we encourage our employees to bring their authentic, original, and best selves to work.
