Overview

DoubleZero is seeking a Data Engineer to join our team. You’ll help design, build, and maintain the pipelines that power analytics, reporting, and protocol insights for our global distributed network. This is an opportunity for an early-career data engineer who thrives at the intersection of data, blockchain, and networking — and who wants to learn quickly while making a measurable impact.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Build data pipelines. Work with our engineering team to develop and maintain ETL processes that move data from on-chain activity, validator logs, and infrastructure metrics into analytics-ready systems.

  • Keep data clean and reliable. Assist in implementing validation checks, monitoring data quality, and troubleshooting issues to ensure our teams always have accurate, timely insights.

  • Learn and grow. Develop your expertise in SQL, Python, and distributed data technologies. We expect curiosity and eagerness to dig into logs, schemas, and dashboards to understand how everything fits together.

  • Support protocol analytics. Help design dashboards and reporting systems that allow stakeholders — from internal teams to community members — to see the health and performance of the DoubleZero network.

  • Collaborate across functions. Work closely with infrastructure, product, and research teams to understand their data needs, prioritize requests, and support decision-making with well-structured pipelines and datasets.

Qualifications
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in data engineering, data analytics, or software engineering — this can include a combination of professional work and substantial internship, co-op, or project-based experience.

  • Strong SQL fundamentals and comfort writing queries against large datasets.

  • Exposure to Python, data engineering workflows, or cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).

  • Interest in distributed systems, blockchain networks, or network infrastructure.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to shifting priorities, and thrive in a fast-moving environment.

  • A willingness to learn quickly — experience with data engineering tools (Airflow, dbt, Kafka, Spark, etc.) is a plus, but not required.

  • Startup-minded: you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty, experiment, and iterate on imperfect systems.

Personal Attributes
  • Curious and analytical. You enjoy exploring messy data and figuring out how to structure it into something meaningful.

  • Systems thinker. You can see how infrastructure, operations, and protocol data connect, and you’re motivated to build reliable bridges between them.

  • Clear communicator. You’re able to document pipelines, explain technical concepts, and share insights with both technical and non-technical teammates.

  • Ownership-driven. You take initiative and pride in solving problems rather than waiting for perfect instructions.

  • Crypto enthusiast. You’re excited by the challenge of helping to scale decentralized systems and see data as the lens to understand them.

ABOUT DOUBLEZERO

DoubleZero is a decentralized, permissionless protocol that revolutionizes network performance for distributed systems like blockchain. The mission is simple: increase bandwidth and reduce latency.

DoubleZero increases bandwidth by filtering junk data that currently plagues validators and other network operators. DoubleZero reduces latency by connecting these filters with underutilized private fiber links in the form of a mesh network. By combining these improvements and routing the right data through optimized, low-latency paths, the DoubleZero protocol empowers blockchains and other systems to reach performance levels that are currently impossible.

In short, DoubleZero is a new Internet for distributed systems. It is supported by two organizations: DoubleZero Foundation, which drives the adoption, decentralization, security, and advancement of the protocol; and Malbec Labs, which develops the technical components of the protocol itself. We look forward to hearing from you.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
