As a Junior Build Engineer, you'll be building and maintaining our continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipeline for Sonos. You will contribute to and learn about workflow automation solutions including: source control management, build and continuous integration, artifact and release systems, and delivery through cloud services. Your goal will be to support and grow our ability to help developers go from ideas to code to a releasable artifact.

This is a hybrid role, based in our Boston, MA office. #LI-Hybrid

What You'll Do

Build Engineers on the team work directly with software engineers to create solutions that enable the engineers to do their best work. You will learn from and contribute to projects including:

  • Source control management systems (Git)

  • Software build tooling for applications built on Mac, Windows, and Linux (Python and

  • JavaScript)

  • Continuous Integration and Deployment Systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions)

  • Artifact and release management systems (Artifactory)

  • Workflow management and collaboration tools (GitHub, Jira, Confluence, Slack)

  • Internal scripts used to package and publish software releases (Python)

  • Cloud infrastructure (AWS), EKS, EBS and Lambda

What You'll Need

Basic Qualifications

  • 0–1 years of experience in a software development, DevOps, build, or release engineering role, internship or co-op

  • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience

  • Basic programming experience with Python and/or Bash

  • Familiarity with version control concepts and Git

  • Exposure to or coursework involving software build systems or scripting

  • Eagerness to learn CI/CD tools and workflow automation practices

  • Basic understanding of visualization tools (Datadog)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Any hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions

  • Experience writing or modifying build scripts (make, maven, gradle, or similar)

  • Exposure to cloud-based infrastructure (AWS) or containerization concepts (Docker)

  • Familiarity with Agile project management tools such as Jira

  • Exposure to Kubernetes, ArgoCD, or infrastructure-as-code tools (terraform, JCasC)

The base pay range for this role based off geographic location is:

$93,000 and $115,900

The specific pay offered will depend on the candidate’s geographic location, as well as qualifications and experience. We apply geographic pay differentials based on the cost of labor in the market.  Employees in high-cost locations may be compensated at the upper end of the range, while those in medium or low cost markets may be compensated at the lower end of  the range. Your recruiter can provide more details about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
