The R&D intern program will consist of a robust induction plan followed by a 3-month internship across various facets of our Research & Development organization within the Sports Medicine Franchise at S+N. The position will be based in Andover,
This role reports into the Systems Engineering team and focuses on advancing the Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practice at Smith + Nephew. The individual in this role will work closely with the Systems Engineering team to apply MBSE methodology to the development of novel medical devices related to Sports Medicine.
What will you be doing?
Work closely with Systems Engineers and Managers to complete specifically identified internship project. Present conclusion of project to senior leaders.
Set up MBSE templates & export reports in Enterprise Architect
Translate existing Systems Engineering Models into Enterprise Architect
Create new Systems Engineering Models in Enterprise Architect
Planned Start Date: May 2026
Program Length: 12 weeks
Location: Andover, MA
What will you need to be successful?
Education:
Currently enrolled in an Engineering undergraduate program in Systems, Computer, Software, Biomedical and/or related Engineering field at an accredited university.
Major GPA of 3.5 or above preferred.
Experience:
Previous internship or applicable part-time experience preferred.
Competencies:
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Comfort with engineering software tools and the ability to learn new software tools quickly
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
Ability to work independently and know when to seek assistance for new/challenging tasks
Exposure to UML and/or SysML modelling languages preferred
Exposure to requirements development and architecture concepts preferred

The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $27- $32 USD hourly
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
