We are looking for a 1099 Interim SPD OR Liaison local to Boston. This position is the liaison between the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and the Operating Room (OR) regarding supplies, equipment, and setup. The role assesses the needs of surgeons and the OR staff and acts as a mediator between the OR and SPD. The SPD OR Liaison identifies resources needed to implement new programs/procedures pertaining to surgical instrument preparation, assembly, and maintenance. This position organizes, directs, and implements daily activities regarding surgical instrumentation ordering, presentation, maintenance, and preparation. The SPD OR Liaison assists in developing, communicating, implementing, and troubleshooting instrument issues.


Key Responsibilities

  • Audits case instrumentation for completeness, accuracy, and readiness for scheduled procedures.
  • Serves as the primary liaison among the OR, SPD, surgeons, and other clinical stakeholders to facilitate communication and resolve operational issues. 
  • Manages instrumentation turnover and prioritizes instrument processing based upon surgical schedules and operational needs. 
  • Verifies that instrumentation required for scheduled procedures is sterilized, available, and appropriately coordinated with leadership. 
  • Collaborates with the SPD leadership to conduct satisfaction surveys of customers.
  • Manages case carts to confirm picked properly and OR room is set up in accordance with needs. 
  • Communicates with surgeons, OR staff, and SPD personnel to promote customer service and to communicate and provide follow-up on any concerns and resolutions. 
  • Maintains competency in SPD processes, applicable guidelines, and Client policies and procedures, including completion of required competency assessments and training. 
  • Performs ongoing inventory management of case carts for the ORs and assists in resolving incomplete trays or missing instrumentation in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Communicates surgeon preference card issues to the OR Service Line Coordinators (SLCs) and recommends areas for improvement. 
  • Directs the workload of SPD Technicians, as needed.
  • Communicates with SPD staff prior to cases to ascertain specific instrument and supply needs and ensures these items are available. Troubleshoots operational issues and identifies alternative solutions, when necessary. 
  • Responds appropriately to problem calls from Surgery to address needs or issues.
  • Communicates professionally with hospital staff, visitors, and patients.
  • Transports sterilized instruments to the OR area as needed. 
  • Reports broken instrumentation, failed process flows, and equipment to SPD Leadership.
  • Promotes quality of care and customer service to the OR by addressing and communicating to SPD leadership any issues occurring in the OR, such as inefficient SPD processes or technician errors.
  • Demonstrates dependability and accountability to both the OR and SPD.
  • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, including dress code and time & attendance.
  • Shares knowledge with co-workers through open communication and continuous upgrading of skills. 
  • Follows chain of command within the hospital regarding problems or issues to ensure proper communication and resolution.
  • Meets with Operating Room staff and Surgeons to provide customer service, communication, and resolution of issues. 
  • Adherence to all of Client’s RESPECT behavioral standards

Qualifications

  • CRCST, CST Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.
  • Must have 3 years of current experience in an OR environment or 5 years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be local to Boston, MA.
  • Ability to work independently as a 1099 contractor.


Work Schedule

  • Flexible contract schedule based on facility needs.
  • May require early mornings, occasional evenings, or on-call availability.


Pay Range

  • $30 to $50 hourly (based on full-time contracted hours)


Classification

This position is classified as an Independent Contractor (1099) and is not eligible for employee benefits. Contractor is responsible for maintaining licensure, certifications, professional liability insurance, and tax obligations.
