Position Summary

Blue Yonder Defense Solutions (BYDS) is seeking a Distributed Systems / Integration Architect to lead the design and evolution of our next-generation, enterprise-scale platform. This role will define architectural patterns for distributed computing, event-driven systems, and enterprise integration, ensuring scalability, resilience, and interoperability across a complex ecosystem of internal and external systems.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in distributed systems with strong experience in messaging frameworks, integration patterns, and cloud-native architectures, and can translate business requirements into robust, scalable system designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architecture Leadership -- define and evolve the reference architecture for distributed, event-driven, and integration-centric systems. Establish architecture principles, standards, and design patterns across engineering teams. Lead system design for high-scale, mission-critical applications.
  • Distributed Systems Design – design systems that can handle high throughput and large-scale data processing, fault tolerance and resiliency, scalability and performance optimization, and eventual consistency and distributed transactions.
  • Enterprise Integration & Messaging – architect solutions based on Enterprise Integration Patterns such as publish/subscribe, message routing and transformation, and event driven workflows. Have a deep understanding of messaging platforms such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, Apache ActiveMQ, etc. Define strategies for message durability and replay, schema evolution and event versioning, dead-letter handling and recovery, etc.
  • API & Service Architecture – define standards for API design and governance (REST, gRPC, asyn APIs), architect service-to-service communication models (synchronous vs. asynchronous), guide implementation of API gateways and service meshes.
  • Cloud-Native & Platform Architecture – design systems leveraging Docker, Kubernetes. Define architecture for multi-region deployments, high availability and disaster recovery, Infrastructure-as-Code using tools like Ansible (preferred) and Terraform
  • Data Architecture & Flow – design distributed data strategies including Event Sourcing and CQRS patterns, data synchronization across services, distributed data stores and replication.
  • Observability and Reliability Engineering – define system-wide observability strategy using tools such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger. Establish patterns for distributed tracing and correlation IDs.
  • Security & Compliance Architecture – define secure communication patterns (mTLS, zero-trust architectures), ensure secure integration across distributed services, support compliance requirements (e.g., FedRAMP, DoD standards, SOC2).
  • Cross-Team and Customer Collaboration – partner with engineering, DevOps, and security team both internally and with external customers (very important). Mentor senior engineers and provide architectural guidance. Participate in design reviews and technical decision-making.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant focus on distributed systems architecture.
  • Proven experience designing large-scale, distributed, and event-driven systems
  • Strong technical understanding of Java based microservices architecture and API gateways
  • Strong experience design event riven architecture messaging platforms such as Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Deep understanding of Enterprise Integration Patterns and Data Flows
  • Experience with cloud-native platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Strong knowledge of microservices architecture and API design.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Solid understanding of data architecture in distributed environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with designing and integration in Supply chain world
  • Familiarity with concepts from: Designing Data-Intensive Applications, Enterprise Integration Patterns
  • Experience in regulated environments (FedRAMP, DoD, defense systems).
  • Experience designing multi-tenant enterprise SaaS platforms
