Buy Side from WSJ is seeking a highly experienced senior editor with an extensive background in insurance to review and write interesting, accurate and relevant coverage for a consumer audience. This editor will play a key role in our operation to break down complex insurance topics and help readers make educated decisions on the best insurance products for their unique situations.
The candidate must have experience editing and writing articles on a variety of insurance topics, have worked with large datasets and have developed data-driven methodologies designed to simplify consumer decision-making.
The successful candidate will have experience reporting and/or editing on all or most of these insurance topics: pet, auto, life, business, travel, homeowners and renters.

About the Role:This editor will ensure that articles meet high quality standards of journalism while responsibly guiding readers. This role is part of the Buy Side from WSJ editorial team.
You Will:Be the insurance expert for Buy Side, staying on top of changes to the insurance industry.
Edit, and sometimes write, articles on insurance topics that are relevant for WSJ subscribers.
Ensure that sources/sourcing are appropriate for the topic and that the insurance team does a thorough job of fact-checking.
Coach a team of insurance writers and an insurance editor to deepen their knowledge of insurance products.
Develop data-driven methodologies for insurance articles.
Collaborate with the editorial and commerce teams on article lineups for future months to ensure relevancy for the WSJ audience.
Have an understanding of the WSJ.com audience to ensure articles are a fit for the brand environment.
Work proactively with partners in the spirit of providing useful service to readers.
Recommend linking opportunities to recent WSJ news articles where topics align
Write and edit content that upholds editorial standards to deliver independent and unbiased reporting.
Ensure accuracy and journalistic standards for all content.
8+ years of personal finance reporting/editing experience.
Proven track record in managing editorial teams.
Experience developing data-driven methodologies to evaluate insurance products.
Strong understanding of SEO best practices and content optimization techniques.
In-depth understanding of the insurance industry, including current trends and consumer concerns.
Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, while delivering quality content.
Ease and speed in identifying problems in copy and clearly communicating changes needed, suggesting specific edits and wording.
Familiarity with affiliate revenue operations is preferred.
Insurance agent license is a plus but not required.
Ideal candidates will have experience working on staff in a news environment.
NYC-area to attend in-person weekly meetings preferred, though qualified remote candidates will be considered.
