Overview

1047 Games began with the simple principle that people should have fun while making great games. Bucking convention and driven by a passion to create the ultimate gaming experience, Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian founded 1047 Games in 2017 in their Stanford dorm room. Their love for arena shooters of the past drove them to create Splitgate, a unique sci-fi first-person shooter that adds portal guns to upend the genre.

What started as two computer science majors putting portals into a first-person shooter for a project demo has evolved into a VC-backed company which has raised more than $120MM in funding.

At 1047 Games, you’ll find a permanently remote, dedicated team of top-tier talent from some of the world’s biggest gaming and tech companies who share our founders’ vision. Grit, ingenuity, a desire to have fun, and a start up mentality define our crew. We are currently working on a brand new shooter in the Splitgate universe.

What We're Looking For

  • A passionate engineer:  you love to take on seemingly impossible technical problems to find creative and robust solutions.
  • A hard worker:  you are willing to put in the extra effort, not because you are told, but because you enjoy your work and you bring a level of craft and professionalism.
  • A gamer:  you have a passion for gaming, and you know what separates exceptional games from average ones.  This will help you make technical tradeoffs and anticipate system needs.
  • We do not want a firefighter.  We want an architect/builder who is able to eliminate fires and anticipate needs.

What You Will Do

  • You will be the chief engineer and architect of our company-wide infrastructure.
  • You will work closely with engineering teams to maintain and improve a state of the art infrastructure layer that includes fully automated deployments, infrastructure entirely as code, CICD, a comprehensive visibility and monitoring layer, automated load testing, local-to-cloud development workflows, and more.

What Will You Need to Succeed

  • 6+ years of experience building cloud infrastructure for distributed systems
  • Mastery of core AWS services including governance, networking, compute, and storage
  • Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools
  • Deep knowledge of operating Kubernetes at scale leveraging Istio and cloud native CI/CD tools like ArgoCD

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
