Infrastructure Engineer - Packaging Services Organization

This position is primarily based in a location within PNC's footprint. Responsibilities require time in the office or in a field on a regular basis. Some responsibilities can be performed remotely. Additional locations may be considered.
An Infrastructure Engineer in the Packaging Services Organization prepares, configures, and maintains software packages for deployment within the environment. This role ensures applications are delivered reliably, securely, and efficiently to end users. The Infrastructure Engineer works with various teams to manage the lifecycle of desktop applications, from packaging and testing to deployment and support.
Key Responsibilities
• Create and customize installation packages for commercial and in-house applications using tools like Microsoft Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM), Intune, AdminStudio, InstallShield, and MSI.
• Manage application upgrades, updates, and patches, keeping documentation and version control up to date.
• Test packaged software to verify proper installation and compatibility, resolving conflicts as needed.
• Work with deployment teams to roll out applications, troubleshoot errors, and support users after deployment.
• Write and maintain automation scripts (PowerShell, VBScript, Batch) to streamline packaging and deployment.
• Ensure all packages follow security policies and compliance requirements.
• Document packaging processes and troubleshooting steps for team use.
• Communicate with software owners, vendors, end users, and other IT staff to gather requirements and provide updates.
• Keep up with new packaging tools and best practices to improve efficiency and quality.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in IT or equivalent experience.
• Experience with software packaging and deployment in Windows environments.
• Extensive experience with tools like Microsoft Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM), Intune, AdminStudio, InstallShield, and MSI.
• Deep knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Batch, and VBScript).
• Understanding of Windows desktops, servers, and Active Directory.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, ITIL Foundation).
• Knowledge of virtualization and cloud desktop solutions.
• Familiarity with ServiceNow.

Typical Duties
• Review packaging requests and collaborate with software owners to clarify requirements.
• Evaluate and test installers for compatibility.
• Build standard MSI, MST, or script-based packages.
• Test packages in controlled environments.
• Troubleshoot and fix software conflicts.
• Update packages as needed.
• Coordinate and monitor deployments with partner teams.
• Document processes and contribute to team knowledge.
• Support improvement projects and help train staff.
Work Environment
• Hybrid work arrangements (3 days in-office, 2 remote).
• Some after-hours work may be needed for priority incident support.
