CARE ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS, HUMANITARIAN AID, OR HELPING PEOPLE AFFECTED BY POVERTY, CONFLICT, AND DISASTER?

Turn that passion into work you can actually do every day.

Public Outreach is hiring outgoing, compassionate, and motivated people to join our outdoor, face-to-face fundraising team in Boston.

You'll represent leading nonprofit organizations working on humanitarian relief, children's rights, poverty and inequality, civil liberties, and support for communities facing crisis.

Your job is to connect with members of the public, have meaningful conversations about important causes, and inspire people to become monthly donors.

No fundraising experience required. We'll train you.

QUICK ROLE OVERVIEW

  • $20/hour guaranteed starting pay - not commission-based

  • Performance-based bonuses on top of hourly pay

  • Paid training from day one

  • Full-time and part-time opportunities available

  • Full-time availability preferred

  • Minimum 3 full shifts per week (22.5 hours)

  • Each shift is 7.5 hours

  • Outdoor, face-to-face fundraising throughout the Boston area

  • Opportunities for leadership advancement and professional development

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY BE DOING

You'll work alongside a supportive team, connecting with people in public spaces throughout Boston.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Starting conversations with members of the public about humanitarian and human rights issues

  • Sharing information about nonprofit campaigns and the communities they support

  • Explaining how monthly donations help fund important programs

  • Inspiring people to become ongoing monthly donors

  • Working toward individual and team fundraising goals

  • Developing communication, public speaking, and leadership skills

  • Participating in regular coaching and team development

This is fundraising, not petitioning or volunteer work.

You'll be asking members of the public to financially support nonprofit organizations through monthly donations.

THE ISSUES YOU MAY WORK ON

Depending on your campaign, your conversations may involve:

  • Children and families affected by war and displacement

  • Humanitarian emergencies and disaster relief

  • Hunger and global poverty

  • Refugees and displaced communities

  • Human and civil rights

  • Racial justice and economic inequality

  • LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive freedom

  • Protecting people's rights, safety, and dignity

Campaign assignments may change, but the goal remains the same - helping nonprofit organizations build sustainable support for causes that matter.

We believe in promoting from within. Many of our leaders began as fundraisers and developed their careers through hands-on experience.

SCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT

We offer both full-time and part-time positions, with preference given to applicants who can commit to full-time hours.

Schedule requirements:

  • Minimum 3 full shifts per week

  • Each shift is 7.5 hours

  • Minimum 22.5 hours per week

  • Consistent weekly availability required

  • Full-time availability preferred

You'll work with your team at fundraising locations throughout the Boston area.

This is an active, outdoor position.

Expect to spend much of your shift walking, standing, and speaking with members of the public.

Our teams work outdoors in all safe weather conditions, including rain, cold, and warmer temperatures, with appropriate safety precautions.

Applicants should be comfortable with the physical demands of the role, including extended periods of walking, standing, and navigating public spaces.

WHO THRIVES IN THIS ROLE?

You don't need a particular degree or professional background to succeed here.

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Care about humanitarian issues, social justice, or making a positive difference

  • Enjoy meeting people and having meaningful conversations

  • Are confident approaching strangers or excited to develop that confidence

  • Can communicate serious issues with empathy and respect

  • Stay positive and motivated when someone says "no"

  • Are comfortable working toward individual and team goals

  • Enjoy active, outdoor work rather than sitting behind a desk

Experience in hospitality, retail, customer service, education, performing arts, sales, advocacy, volunteering, community organizing, or fundraising can translate especially well - but isn't required.

Students, recent graduates, career changers, and people looking for meaningful work are encouraged to apply.

We'll provide paid training, ongoing coaching, and support from experienced team members.

Your hourly wage is guaranteed. Your results still matter.

We want Public Outreach to be a workplace where people can genuinely be themselves.

Our teams include members of the LGBTQ+ community, and creating an environment where people feel safe, respected, supported, and welcome matters to us.

Queer, trans, and applicants from underrepresented communities are welcome here.

Bring your personality, your perspective, and a willingness to learn.
