Position Overview

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading all aspects of HR operations within the community, including employee relations, benefits, payroll, recruitment, training, and compliance. This role partners closely with the Executive Director and department leaders to support team performance, drive engagement, and ensure a positive employee experience across the community.

This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment and enjoys being actively involved in day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director and department heads on all HR matters 
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and conflict resolution to managers and employees 
  • Foster a positive workplace culture through engagement, recognition, and communication initiatives 

Recruitment & Talent Management

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment efforts for all positions within the community 
  • Train and guide managers on effective interviewing and hiring practices 
  • Ensure onboarding processes are completed and aligned with company standards 

Payroll & HRIS Management

  • Oversee and support payroll processing in partnership with corporate (Paylocity) 
  • Ensure accuracy of payroll, timekeeping, and employee data 
  • Serve as the onsite expert for HRIS systems and reporting 

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefits, including ICHRA (Remodel Health) and 401(k) programs 
  • Support employee education and enrollment processes 
  • Partner with corporate HR on renewals and benefit strategy 

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (California focus) 
  • Oversee workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and safety initiatives 
  • Maintain proper documentation and audit readiness 

Training & Development

  • Lead HR-related training for managers and staff, including performance management and compliance 
  • Support performance evaluations and development planning across departments

Requirements


Qualifications
  • 3+ years of Human Resources leadership experience (senior living, healthcare, or hospitality preferred) 
  • Strong knowledge of California labor laws and HR compliance 
  • Experience managing employee relations, payroll, and benefits 
  • Proficiency in HRIS/payroll systems (Paylocity or similar required) 
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work both strategically and hands-on in daily operations
