The HPC Storage Engineer will design, implement, and manage high-performance storage solutions for quantitative research, ensuring efficiency and reliability in data handling.
Wolverine is seeking an experienced HPC Storage Engineer to join our team and help build our next-generation HPC infrastructure. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and ongoing management of the high-performance storage infrastructure critical to our quantitative research. You will empower quantitative researchers to develop cutting-edge trading strategies and train models on vast amounts of data. The ideal candidate is extremely self-motivated, loves getting their hands dirty, and is passionate about designing cutting-edge systems.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the design and evolution of our high-performance storage solutions, ensuring they meet the throughput, capacity, and reliability demands of our research workloads.
- Proactively identify and resolve I/O bottlenecks across the entire storage stack. This includes tuning file system parameters, optimizing network connectivity for storage, and working with applications teams to improve data access patterns.
- Hands-on deployment, configuration, and integration of new storage hardware and software solutions into our existing HPC environments.
- Monitor storage usage and performance trends, conduct capacity planning, and implement strategies for efficient data lifecycle management.
- Develop automation tools and scripts for storage provisioning, configuration management, and system monitoring to enhance system efficiency and reliability.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex storage-related issues.
- Ensure the integrity, availability, and security of critical research and trading data
- Work with quantitative researchers, traders, HPC engineers, and software developers to understand their data storage and access requirements and deliver optimized solutions.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related highly quantitative or technical field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and managing high-performance storage solutions within large-scale HPC environments, preferably in a financial services domain.
- Deep expertise in parallel file systems (e.g., Lustre, GPFS) is required.
- Exceptional proficiency in Linux system administration and a deep understanding of the Linux I/O stack.
- Strong programming and scripting skills in Python and Bash are essential. Experience with C++ is a significant plus.
- In-depth knowledge of high-speed networking protocols (e.g., InfiniBand, RoCE, RDMA fabrics) and their impact on storage performance.
- Experience with performance profiling tools for storage (e.g., fio, iperf).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
