A new space race has begun. True Anomaly seeks those with the talent and ambition to build innovative technology that solves the next generation of engineering, manufacturing, and operational challenges for space security and sustainability.

OUR MISSION

The peaceful use of space is essential for continued prosperity on Earth—from communications and finance to navigation and logistics. True Anomaly builds innovative technology at the intersection of spacecraft, software, and AI to enhance the capabilities of the U.S., its allies, and commercial partners. We safeguard global security by ensuring space access and sustainability for all.

OUR VALUES

  • Be the offset. We create asymmetric advantages with creativity and ingenuity
  • What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results
  • It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together

YOUR MISSION

True Anomaly is looking for you, a creative and experienced engineer, to develop a custom software for the hardware-in-the-loop / software-in-the-loop (HIL/SIL) testbed for our spacecraft. In this role, you’ll be responsible for verifying the spacecraft-level functionality and supporting on-orbit anomaly resolution. You’ll take full ownership of the development, configuration control, and maintenance of the HIL/SIL software. Bring your innovative ideas for a "factory of the future" and apply them in a fast-paced production environment with same-year space flight results.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the software design, development, and implementation of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) systems for spacecraft testing and validation.
  • Define the architecture for HIL/SIL systems to enable accurate simulation of spacecraft dynamics, sensors, actuators, and environment.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, GNC, avionics, and software teams to define requirements and ensure seamless integration of HIL/SIL systems into the development lifecycle.
  • Develop high-fidelity real-time simulation models of spacecraft subsystems, including propulsion, thermal, power, and communication systems.
  • Implement and integrate simulation interfaces, data acquisition systems, and real-time control hardware to create a comprehensive HIL/SIL testing platform.
  • Design and execute test campaigns using HIL/SIL systems to validate software, firmware, and hardware functionality before integration and flight.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot issues identified during HIL/SIL testing, collaborating with engineering teams to resolve them efficiently.
  • Maintain and upgrade HIL/SIL systems to support evolving mission requirements and technology advancements.
  • Define, lead, execute test and flight scripts used in ground testing and flight.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in software, electrical, aerospace, or controls engineering.
  • 5-7+ years of professional experience with spacecraft simulators and EGSE.
  • Demonstrated excellence software systems and integration with hardware.
  • Experience with CAD, ability to open models, review drawings.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols, including CAN, SPI, UART, and Ethernet, as applied in HIL/SIL setups.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python, C++ and C#.
  • Demonstrated proficiency programming for Beckhoff Automation IPCs in C#/Visual Studio, National Instruments LabVIEW, or Dspace.
  • Ability to implement systems that incorporate software version control such as Github.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with little input on requirements or management oversight.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with spacecraft-specific HIL/SIL challenges, such as GNC system validation, fault-tolerant design testing, and closed-loop control verification.
  • Proven track record of innovation in test automation, simulation fidelity, or integration efficiency.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic setting.

COMPENSATION

  • California Base Salary: $145,000-$200,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job related knowledge and skills, education, location and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS//SCI clearance
  • Work Location: LB or Centennial
  • Work environment is in a standard office, working at a desk or in a production factory.
  • Physical demands may include frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting or carrying items up to 20lbs.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
