The Group: 

The Individual Investor business unit at Morningstar empowers millions of individual investors and their advisors with editorial insights, unbiased analysis, actionable data and tailored tools to help them make informed investing decisions. We are responsible for growing Morningstar’s global investing media business, the Morningstar.com sites and the consumer-focused Morningstar Investor digital subscription product.  

The Role: 

In this role you’ll be responsible for empowering millions of investors globally by leading the product management and design functions for some of Morningstar’s most visible products - Morningstar.com, our international Global.Morningstar.com site, and Morningstar Investor. You will own the development of a shared product vision and the execution of a roadmap that increases engagement from millions of actively monthly visitors to tens of millions visitors with Morningstar.com and other properties. Your reach will include our digital site, mobile app and consumer Generative AI platform apps. You will be responsible for ensuring Product and Design teams are effectively partnering with Engineering, Editorial, Marketing, Ad Sales, Support and other groups across Morningstar to achieve this roadmap.

A commercial mindset is also critical as the experience needs to balance the needs of Morningstar, advertising clients and individual subscribers’ needs.  

Knowledge of investing is necessary, but the ideal candidate will also have experience leading global teams building consumer digital subscription products and/or digital media experiences across web and mobile interfaces. This person will need to be an experienced leader that sets high bars, expects ownership, is willing to innovate on ways of building product, and takes an active approach to helping teams reach their maximum potential.  

 
Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage the global roadmap for Morningstar’s Individual Investor group products 
  • Ensure there is a focus on delivering positive outcomes for our customers by being their chief advocate 
  • Establish the use of generative AI across all areas of our product development lifecycle. 
  • Partner with engineering group to drive execution and ensure product managers and designers are providing a high degree of support to counterparts 
  • Grow and evolve the teams’ processes and practices around the use of user research, product testing, and iterative agile development  
  • Establish competitive analysis intelligence, market analysis, and customer research that aids in the understanding of current and future customer needs 
  • Plan the structure and growth of the product management and design teams 
  • Own the OKR setting process for your teams, working closely with business partners to ensure alignment and focus across the individual business. 
  • Create a higher performing team through regular feedback, development plans, coaching, goal setting, recurring 1v1s and performance conversations 
  • Stay current on product development across Morningstar to identify dependencies, impacts, and opportunities for the individual investor roadmap 
  • Define and report regularly on success metrics measuring customer satisfaction, product engagement and business impact 
  • Partner with commercial teams on the go-to market strategies and the development of product-driven growth  
  • Build relationships with other Morningstar business product teams across the company to help identify cross-team collaboration opportunities 
  • Achieve customer satisfaction and financial growth and goals

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of product management experience with a strong customer-focused mindset.  
  • 5+ years leading and managing product management and/or design teams 
  • 5+ years working with direct-to-consumer software products 
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and teams with stakeholders across the organization 
  • Experience working closely with business & marketing partners 
  • Comfort and experience managing teams distributed globally 
  • Skilled communicator, comfortable with delivering presentations and providing clear written communication 
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership on plans and progress 
  • Natural collaborator 
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial thinker who knows the details matter 
  • Familiarity with investing a must. Solid understanding of ETFs, mutual funds, stocks, asset allocations, investment performance and financial planning a plus.

Total Cash Compensation Range

$215,825.00-330,941.66

Inclusive of annual base salary and target incentive
