The Role
The Head of Market Operations leads and supervises a remote operational team responsible for all facets of trading and market operations for the LTSE, ensuring seamless, efficient, and compliant execution of trades. The person in this role will play a critical part in upholding market integrity, driving strategic initiatives, supporting member relationships, and contributing to business growth. They will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to craft the member experience, which will cover clearing, technology, regulation and compliance. Lastly, they’ll be a partner within the Long-Term Stock Exchange team in areas of business development, product development, positioning, and internal operations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily trading system performance and integrity, including the monitoring of order routing, execution matching, order book maintenance, and platform connectivity (e.g., MEMO FIX, MEMO SBE, FIX drop‑copy, MEMOIR feeds).
- Coordinate closely with technology teams on system upgrades, performance tuning, incident resolution, and process automation.
- Develop and enhance internal operational procedures to improve information accuracy, customer support, automation, and staff efficiency.
- Manage all post-trade activities, including clearing, settlement, trade reconciliation, and some regulatory reporting.
- Oversee interfaces with clearing and settlement entities and ensure end-to-end trade lifecycle integrity and compliance.
- Support Finance Team by supplying Section 31 activity, 240 6.a-3 reports and emails, monthly reporting of Physical Connections, Ports, Direct Feed (for billing purposes).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory developments and drive strategic and customer-centric compliance adaptations.
- Define, monitor, and mitigate operational and market risks, including intraday trading anomalies, system outages, and liquidity disruptions.
- Provide leadership on crisis response for trading halts, anomalies, or incidents.
- Provide support to member firms on any market-related issues, including connectivity, trading functionality, operational issues, and onboarding.
- Oversee the application and integration process for new members, ensuring smooth transitions into the trading environment.
- Partner with Business Development to identify and pursue sales and growth opportunities, ensuring that member feedback informs platform enhancements.
- Collaborate on client relationship management and marketing efforts, leveraging trading and operations insights.
- Work with Product Development and Technology teams to enhance business intelligence and market operations technology tools to improve the team’s ability to support member firms.
- Build, mentor, and motivate a team of remote operational staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, open communication, and continuous improvement.
- Establish clear KPIs, conduct performance reviews, and promote professional development.
Must Haves
- Deep knowledge of financial markets, member firm organizational structures and business models, and back-office processes. Equity markets experience is highly desired.
- A strong understanding of risk management principles and the ability to implement robust control environments.
- Familiarity with relevant financial regulations.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, resolve conflicts, and influence stakeholders.
- Experience with transforming systems and implementing new technology infrastructure to improve operations.
- Ability to develop and implement strategies that align with the business's overarching goals.
Education & Experience
- Candidates should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of relevant experience.
- Experience leading an operational team is highly desirable.
- Prior experience with electronic trading platforms, exchange infrastructure, or post-trade operations is highly desirable.
- Deep familiarity with FIX, SBE, drop‑copy, and market data protocols.
- Strong understanding of clearing, settlement and trade reporting workflows.
LTSE's Compensation Philosophy
The target base salary range for this position is $225,000-275,000, and is part of a total rewards package including stock options and benefits, and may include additional performance incentives. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually using multiple databases including Pave, Radford, McLagan, and other peersets, to ensure competitive and fair pay.
To determine the compensation for the role, we use a data-driven, blended rate approach to ensure we are paying competitively among our peers by benchmarking to companies of similar size and stage and hire at the 50th percentile (midpoint) of the salary range.
