Job Title: Director of Engineering, Insurance Division

Location: United States

Workplace Type: Remote

Job Summary

The future is bright for the Porch Group, and we’d love for you to be a part of it as our Director of Engineering, Insurance Division.

Porch Group is building an AI-first home insurance business, and this role leads the engineering organization behind our policy administration, underwriting, agent and consumer experiences, and regulatory capabilities. You will lead the rollout of our new policy administration system and launch capabilities that change how we serve agents, consumers and partners, all while keeping the team shipping quickly in a regulated environment. AI is central to this role: you will set the standard for how engineers design, build, test and ship with AI tools and agents every day, and show measurable gains in speed, quality and cost. You will decide where AI belongs in the platform, how it is governed in a regulated industry, and how the team builds the skills to use it well. As part of the Insurance Division, you will directly shape how Porch delivers on advantaged underwriting and the best services for homeowners.

What You Will Do As A Director of Engineering, Insurance Division
  • Own the engineering strategy and roadmap for Porch's insurance platform, translating Advantaged Underwriting and Best Services for Homeowners into a multi-year plan with Product, Finance, Design and the business.
  • Lead delivery of our new policy administration system and the core platform around it (rating, underwriting, billing, agent and consumer portals), landing it on time without disrupting the inforce book.
  • Make AI-led engineering the default: put AI coding, testing and review agents into every team's daily workflow, and measure the impact on cycle time, quality and cost.
  • Embed AI into the product itself, from underwriting and quoting to servicing and agent tools, and set the guardrails for model governance, explainability and auditability in a regulated environment.
  • Establish clear end-to-end execution processes for each major workstream (planning, estimation, release, testing and compliance controls), document them concisely, and make sure they are followed day to day.
  • Build compliance into the platform so we meet NAIC, SEC and state regulatory requirements without slowing delivery or hurting the customer experience.
  • Set clear KPIs for delivery speed, reliability, quality and business value, and hold the organization accountable to them.
  • Hire, coach and grow high performing engineering managers and senior engineers across the US, South America and India, and build a culture of ownership, learning and smart risk taking.
  • Manage vendors and partners to deliver results, and make sound build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Represent engineering with executives, reinsurance partners and regulators, explaining business results through a technology lens.
What You Will Bring As A Director of Engineering, Insurance Division
  • 12+ years in software engineering, with 8+ years leading engineering teams, including managers, and a record of shipping product at pace.
  • Experience leading an organization of about 20+ people across multiple product teams and locations, including distributed or offshore teams.
  • Experience building a core platform for insurance (for example policy administration, rating, underwriting, billing or claims), from architecture through production, including integration with legacy and third-party systems.
  • Strong technical judgment in modern cloud-native architecture and systems integration; credible in design reviews and able to coach others.
  • Proven AI-led engineering experience: you have built and run a team where AI is central to how software is designed, written, tested and shipped (AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, LLM-powered product features), with measurable gains in throughput or quality.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and working across Product, Data Science and Operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and process discipline: you know the state of your programs cold, test estimates and plans before they reach leadership, close loops without being chased, and catch risks (testing, compliance, dependencies) before they reach production or an audit.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence senior leaders.
  • Familiarity with ICFR and Sarbanes-Oxley, and with multi-state, multi-product insurance compliance.
  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; an MBA or other graduate degree is a plus.
  • Preferred: Home or property insurance, Insurtech, or another regulated, data-heavy domain (fintech, healthcare, marketplace).
  • Preferred: Previous startup or high-growth experience.

The application window for this position is anticipated to close in 2 weeks (10 business days) from 10/15/2026. Please know this may change based on business and interviewing needs.
