As Head of Data Governance Capabilities and Management within PNC's Data Technology organization, you will be based in one of PNC’s technology hubs. We will consider Dallas, TX, Cleveland/Strongsville, OH, or Pittsburgh, PA. The position is primarily based in a PNC location.
We are seeking a highly experienced and technically adept Head of Data Governance Capabilities and Management to lead our enterprise data governance strategy execution and team. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in data quality (rules- and pattern-based), metadata management, lineage, and application-level data integrity, as well as the ability to drive the delivery of scalable and sustainable data solutions across the organization.
This role is critical in ensuring trusted, governed, and high-quality data is available and accessible to power analytics, regulatory reporting, AI/ML, and operational decision-making.
Other primary responsibilities include the following:
•Lead the enterprise data governance function, establishing policies, standards, and frameworks aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
•Design and implement scalable data quality frameworks, including rules-based and pattern-based approaches, to monitor, detect, and remediate data issues
•Oversee metadata management and enterprise data cataloging, ensuring rich context, lineage, and accessibility of data assets across domains.
•Build and maintain end-to-end data lineage capabilities to support transparency, impact analysis, compliance, and model explainability.
•Drive application-level data integrity, ensuring consistent and accurate data as it moves between systems through interfaces, APIs, and microservices.
•Collaborate with engineering, business, risk, and compliance teams to align governance policies with data architecture, product development, and analytics initiatives.
•Lead cross-functional teams, including data stewards, engineers, and analysts, to operationalize governance at scale.
•Support modernization initiatives by integrating governance into cloud platforms, MLOps, data mesh, and real-time data ecosystems.
•Monitor and report data governance KPIs and maturity metrics to senior leadership.
Preferred Competencies/Skills
•Progressive experience in data governance, data management, or enterprise data engineering roles.
•Proven expertise in designing and implementing rules- and pattern-based data quality frameworks at enterprise scale.
•Strong technical background with hands-on experience in data lineage tools, metadata repositories, and data quality platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Ataccama, Talend, BigID).
•Deep understanding of data architecture, data modeling, data integration, and master/reference data management.
•Experience working in cloud-native environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and integrating governance into modern data stacks.
•Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g., BCBS 239, GDPR, CCPA) and their impact on data governance.
•Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive enterprise-wide adoption of governance frameworks.
•Excellent leadership, communication, and program delivery skills.

  • Manages all aspects of organizational data; establishes and maintains policies and procedures for planning, designing and maintaining an information bank to ensure that data services are delivered in a high-quality and profitable manner.
  • Provides senior leadership, direction and methodology for analysis, structure and storage of critical organizational data.
  • Oversees the integrity and maintenance of organizational data.
  • Monitors and reviews major organizational activities and goals to ensure important data needs are anticipated, and met.
  • Reviews and recommends policies and procedures for collecting and managing organization data.

Pay Transparency

Base Salary: $125,000.00 – $299,000.00

Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.
