ClassDojo's goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love.

We started by building a powerful network for communication. ClassDojo’s flagship app is the #1 communication app connecting K-12 teachers, children, and families globally. Teachers use it to share what’s happening throughout the day through photos, videos, and messages that make parents feel like they’re there. It’s actively used in over 95% of US schools, reaching over 45 million children in 180 countries, with a team of just around 200 people [1]. We are now beginning to use this network to give kids the best learning experiences in the world, far beyond those a standard school can provide.

We hire for talent density. Our team comprises the most talented, entrepreneurial, and innovative teammates from around the world, with experience in education and large scale consumer internet companies, including Instagram, Netflix, Dropbox, Stripe, Uber, Y Combinator, and more. We’re building a company where the most talented people want to work. We believe you’ll do the best work of your life here—and you’ll pioneer the future of education, too.

What you’ll do:

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts—including Master Services and data processing agreements with school districts, vendor MSAs, and strategic partnership terms
  • Collaborate with Sales and Legal leadership to establish clear playbooks and fallback terms that speed deal cycles and maintain compliance
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Finance, IT, Product, Engineering) to support procurement and vendor agreements with fast, reliable legal review
  • Provide clear, practical legal guidance on data privacy, risk mitigation, and contract strategy
  • Escalate high-risk or complex issues to senior leadership with clarity and context
  • Track and improve legal processes and systems that support scale across districts and vendors

You will be a match if:

  • JD or equivalent and 7+ years of post-qualification legal experience
  • Deep experience with commercial transactions, ideally in a technology or edtech company
  • Strong skills in drafting and negotiating a wide range of contracts, including SaaS and public sector agreements
  • Knowledge of U.S. data privacy laws (e.g., FERPA, COPPA, state regs); bonus if familiar with international frameworks like GDPR
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially with non-legal stakeholders
  • A collaborative mindset, strong business judgment, and the ability to navigate ambiguity
  • A proactive and empathetic approach to cross-functional partnership

You might be a good fit if:

  • You’ve negotiated with K–12 districts and understand public procurement processes
  • You’ve worked in edtech or education-focused organizations
  • You are CIPP/E certified.
  • You’re experienced in presenting legal risk and tradeoffs to senior management
  • You’re energized by fast-paced environments and bring structure without rigidity

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
