About Butter Payments
At Butter Payments, we’re on a mission to eliminate involuntary churn and make recurring payments seamless. Every year, billions of dollars are lost due to failed payments. Butter leverages machine learning, deep financial data partnerships, and behavioral insights to ensure the right payments go through at the right time—without friction. We're backed by world-class investors like Atomic & Norwest Venture Partners, and we're growing fast.
The Role:
We’re looking for a strategic and hands-on Accounting & Treasury Manager to own and evolve Butter’s financial operations. You’ll lead all things accounting and treasury—managing financial reporting, compliance, cash flow forecasting, and banking relationships. As an early finance leader, you'll help build scalable systems, processes, and a team to support Butter’s next stage of growth.
What You’ll Do:
- Own the accounting function: Ensure timely and accurate month-end close, financial statements, and audits in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage treasury operations: Oversee cash management, forecasting, and optimization across multiple accounts and entities.
- Establish internal controls: Design and maintain robust accounting policies, processes, and systems as we scale.
- Support strategic initiatives: Partner with leadership on fundraising, vendor negotiations, and financial modeling.
- Coordinate with external partners: Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, banks, and accounting software vendors.
What We’re Looking For:
- 5–7 years of relevant experience in accounting and treasury functions
- Early experience from a top tier accounting firm + startup experience (bonus points if you were the first accounting hire in the past)
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting (previous audit experience a nice to have)
- Experience in a high-growth startup, fintech, or SaaS company
- Hands-on experience with financial systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar)
- Comfort operating autonomously while also collaborating cross-functionally
- CPA or equivalent certification preferred but not required
- High attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong communication skills
Why Join Butter:
- We’re building something people need, with a product that’s proven to save millions in revenue.
- We’re a low-ego, high-impact team who values curiosity, ownership, and candor.
- You’ll work closely with a visionary CEO and gain rare exposure to the inner workings of an early-stage startup scaling fast.
- Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits—including health, dental, 401(k), generous time off, and more.
We are focused on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you’re excited about this role, but do not meet 100% of the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply.
