The Sports and Recreation Gym Monitor will provide supervision and assist all Sport & Recreation programs and activities that are operating. Actively engage and supervise participants, focusing on their safety, needs and enrichment. Provide positive member service and abide by all policies and rules of the South Shore YMCA.

CORE EXPECTATIONS: 


  1. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT 

Provide supervision and assist all Sport & Recreation programs and activities that are operating.  

  1. STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT 

Work with YMCA staff and treat them with respect. Perform other tasks and /or duties deemed necessary by the Sport & Recreation Director. Monitor and communicate with supervisor all staff related issues and concerns. Attend all staff meetings and maintain and update when required proper certifications. 

  

  1. MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT 

Provide welcoming member service. Interact with members in a friendly, engaging and professional manner. Respond to inquiries and solve problems. Creates a supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new families, and connects families to the YMCA’s cause. Educate members of all policies and procedures of the YMCA. Be familiar with all information and answer questions about programs, schedules, and policies of the Sport & Recreation department. Ensure that the South Shore YMCA Child Protection Policies are fulfilled. 



  1. FACILITY MANAGEMENT 

Assist in providing an area that is clean, safe and well maintained. Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and communicate to management any deficiencies in quantity and or quality of all equipment.  


  1. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT 

Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community. 

Qualifications
  • Knowledge/experience with a variety of sports  

  • Experience supervising children and adults preferred  

  • Must be motivated, upbeat and dedicated to creating a safe, engaging and fun environment for the children and families we service. 

  • The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and members is important to this position.  

  • Excellent communication skills, and demonstrated poise and professionalism when addressing concerns and interacting with people  

  • Must also have the ability to take initiative and respond to a variety of situations while working in a fast-paced environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Position requires the ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time; the ability to bend, stoop or sit on the ground for long periods of time as well as the ability to lift up to 50lbs.
