About Stepful: Stepful partners with healthcare institutions to build talent pipelines and career pathways. We are reimagining allied healthcare training with a digital-first environment for student cohorts that prepare job-ready graduates five times faster, at a fraction of the cost. Stepful graduates, primarily from underrepresented communities, go on to work at leading healthcare institutions. Stepful is backed by Y Combinator, Reach Capital and AlleyCorp and recently closed a round led by Oak HC/FT.

The role:

You'll build business-critical software that accelerates conversion, drives student acquisition, and delivers accurate, actionable metrics. You’ll work across engineering, product, and growth to identify opportunities, run experiments, and make product recommendations that help us reach more students and support their success.

We take a fast, iterative approach — aiming for 80% of the impact with 20% of the effort — and ship quickly based on data and learnings. You'll own the full development lifecycle: from drafting specs, to collaborating with stakeholders, to launching and measuring impact.

What You’ll Work On:
  • Design and run growth experiments and A/B tests to improve user experience and increase conversion at each step of the funnel

  • Build and maintain our growth analytics infrastructure

  • Implement reliable event tracking and conversion attribution

  • Analyze user journeys, funnel metrics, and campaign performance

  • Optimize student application and onboarding flows to drive engagement and enrollment

  • Build and manage drip email and SMS campaigns to re-engage and retain prospective students

  • Integrate affiliate and referral programs to support organic and partner-driven growth

  • Synchronize data between Stepful and ad providers to support efficient ad spend and accurate ROI calculations

  • Report on key growth metrics like CAC, LTV, and conversion rate to inform strategy and execution

You will be successful if you:
  • Care first: You’re mission-driven and care deeply about helping students succeed

  • Learn quickly: You test, learn with data, and iterate

  • Build together: You collaborate and work well across functions

  • Own it: You take initiative, move fast, and follow through

This job is for you if you have:
  • 5+ years of experience in full-stack or growth-focused engineering roles

  • Experience with A/B testing frameworks (e.g. Optimizely, LaunchDarkly, or custom tools)

  • Fluency in SQL and comfort querying data from platforms like PostgreSQL, BigQuery, or Snowflake

  • Hands-on experience with analytics and tracking tools (Mixpanel, Amplitude, Google Analytics)

  • Familiarity with attribution modeling, UTM setup, and tools like GA4, GTM, and Meta/Google ad pixels

  • A solid understanding of performance marketing metrics like CAC and LTV

  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and working across the full development lifecycle

  • A strong product and business sense — you enjoy understanding how your work drives outcomes

  • Excellent communication skills and a bias toward shipping

Bonus points if:
  • You’ve worked in a direct-to-consumer startup

  • You’ve owned tracking and attribution infrastructure end to end

Interview Process:

Step 1: Intro Call with Talent Acquisition

Step 2: Take-home assignment

Step 3: Virtual interview with a Product Engineer to discuss assignment

Step 4: Virtual System Design interview

Step 5: Onsite interview at office in SoHo, NYC (both technical and non-technical assessment) meeting the Head of Engineering, a Product Engineer, Product Manager and Head of Growth

Compensation:

$140-180k / 0.02 - 0.04% + a comprehensive benefits package

Compensation for this role will fall within the pay range listed and will be determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications as well as interview evaluation. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future.

At Stepful, we're an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
