YOUR MISSION

True Anomaly is seeking a highly skilled and innovative GSE Engineer to lead the design and development of test racks and hardware solutions for spacecraft testing. In this role, you will be responsible for the electrical and mechanical design, integration, and maintenance of Ground Support Equipment (GSE), supporting spacecraft testing, verification, and anomaly resolution. You will work closely with the avionics, mechanical and electrical teams to develop reliable, scalable and upgradeable testing solutions for spacecraft systems. Join us to contribute your expertise to a fast-paced, production-focused environment with same-year space flight results.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the design, development, and implementation of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for spacecraft verification and testing.
  • Define and implement the architecture of GSE to support reliable testing of spacecraft systems, including propulsion, thermal, power, avionics, and communication systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define test setup requirements, integration points, and ensure seamless interaction between GSE and spacecraft subsystems.
  • Design hardware for test racks, ensuring that the systems are modular, scalable, and easily upgradable as spacecraft technologies evolve and mission needs change.
  • Develop customized testing solutions for spacecraft subsystems to simulate real-time interactions with HIL systems, including data acquisition systems, simulation interfaces, and real-time control hardware.
  • Implement and configure test setups within GSE, ensuring proper integration of sensors, actuators, and interfaces for full-scale spacecraft testing.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues identified during testing, working with teams to ensure root cause identification and timely resolution.
  • Maintain and upgrade GSE, ensuring that racks are adaptable and changes are tracked in a configuration management process.
  • Produce documentation for rack designs, test procedures, integration processes, and reports, ensuring compliance with industry standards and certification requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in GSE design, with a strong focus on spacecraft simulators and testing systems.
  • Comprehensive mechanical and electrical engineering expertise, including hardware design, system integration, and troubleshooting of avionics and spacecraft subsystems.
  • Extensive experience with rack design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or other CAD tools) and the ability to produce detailed design drawings and models.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing modular, scalable, and upgradable racks that can support evolving hardware and software systems.
  • Hands-on experience with test instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, data acquisition systems, and other tools essential for spacecraft system testing.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., CAN, SPI, UART, Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553) commonly used in spacecraft and GSE systems.
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, and C# for writing automation scripts, configuring test setups, and managing data flow within GSE environments.
  • Proven ability to work independently and lead complex technical projects with minimal oversight while adhering to rigorous deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical details, design considerations, and test results.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with spacecraft-specific GSE, such as propulsion, power systems, GNC validation, and thermal subsystem testing.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in GSE design, with a strong focus on spacecraft testing systems.
  • Experience in designing and developing upgradable test racks that accommodate future spacecraft mission requirements, technology changes, and growing test complexity.
  • Knowledge of certification processes for spacecraft and ground testing, including standards like DO-160, DO-178C, and DO-254.
  • Hands-on experience with Beckhoff Automation IPCs, or similar real-time control and automation systems, particularly for use in GSE applications.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards and compliance with environmental testing requirements (e.g., EMI/EMC).
  • Experience in test automation and the integration of automated test frameworks into GSE setups.
  • Experience in fast-paced startup environments or other settings where agility and rapid iteration are prioritized.

COMPENSATION

  • Base Salary:  $100,000 - $170,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work Location—Successful candidates will be located near Denver. While we observe a hybrid work environment, some work must be done on site.
  • Work environment—the work environment; temperature, noise level, inside or outside, or other factors that will affect the person's working conditions while performing the job.
