We are seeking a highly motivated and creative thinking Government Affairs Assistant to join our team. This entry-level position is a unique opportunity for an individual with a keen interest in the intersection of business, public policy and the legislative process. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this person will be essential in identifying innovative approaches and strategies, managing the organization's interactions with policymakers and their staff, and ensuring smooth, well-informed communication amongst stakeholders, often requiring the ability to synthesize information and present it in compelling new ways.
In this role you will:

The Government Affairs Assistant will be responsible for a dynamic range of tasks that support our policy engagement efforts:

  • Factual Research and Data Gathering: Conduct factual research, gather company and industry statistics, and collect relevant data to inform policy positions, presentations, and internal discussions.

  • Policy Communications and Outreach: Assist the team in building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders such as legislators, regulatory agencies, policy experts, and partner organizations.

  • Meeting Preparation and Coordination: Organize and schedule meetings with policymakers and other external stakeholders. Prepare background memos and detailed supporting materials for executives participating in these meetings.

  • Legislative Tracking and Updates: Assist our team with the monitoring, tracking, and logging of the status of key bills and regulatory developments relevant to the organization. Provide concise, timely updates to the General Counsel and government affairs team.

  • Administrative Support: Assist with essential coordination and tracking duties related to stakeholder meetings.

Role Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, Law, or a related field.

  • Interest in the Legislative Process: A demonstrated strong interest in the functions of government, the legislative process, and public policy issues.

  • Communication Skills:

    • Excellent written skills: Must be able to craft professional and persuasive memos, emails, and briefing documents.

    • Excellent verbal communication skills: Must be able to confidently and clearly interact with policymakers and internal business stakeholders at all levels.

  • Organizational Abilities: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and competing priorities effectively.

  • Creative Thinking: A resourceful, creative mind with the ability to "think outside the box" to develop innovative solutions and approaches to policy challenges.

  • Teamwork: Proven ability to work collaboratively on a team, contributing positively to group efforts and sharing information effectively.

  • Initiative: A self-starter who is proactive in identifying research needs and administrative tasks without constant supervision.

Compensation:

Annual Targeted Salary: $65,000-$80,000 USD

Annual Target Bonus: 10%
