The Global Intelligence Team is composed of highly trained investigators committed to protecting Coinbase, its customers, and the ecosystem from illicit activity by engaging with law enforcement to reduce criminal threats and victimization. We specialize in blockchain analysis, criminal subpoena responses, and proactive investigations targeting fraud, money laundering, ransomware, darknet markets, account takeovers, investment scams, and more.
This role is crucial for interfacing with law enforcement, investigating wrongdoing, and ensuring the highest standard of compliance.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Serve as the primary point of contact for law enforcement inquiries.
- Evaluate, process, and fulfill legal information requests (e.g., subpoenas) in a timely manner, determining any risks or sensitivities.
- Provide technical assistance and records in alignment with legal and compliance guidelines.
- Conduct blockchain analysis using top-tier investigative tools (e.g., Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic, etc).
- Pursue investigations into criminal activity with oversight from senior investigators.
- Escalate urgent or sensitive matters to management.
- Remain up to date on relevant laws and policies.
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
- Investigative Abilities and Industry Knowledge - 2+ years experience:
- Experience interacting with law enforcement agencies at a federal / national and local level, at a crypto/fintech company, bank or investigations company.
- Experience with blockchain analysis and navigation - ideal if experienced with tools such as TRM, Chainalysis.
- Familiarity with on-chain financial crime typologies.
- Knowledge and experience of cryptocurrency - ideally in a professional setting, but open to personal application as well
- Strong instincts for detecting and reviewing illicit activity.
- Core Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong professional judgment to evaluate and respond to legal requests.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as to collaborate cross-functionally.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
- Capacity to adapt to shifting priorities and fast-changing technologies in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Nice to haves:
- 2+ years of experience directly interfacing with law enforcement agencies.
- Expertise in cryptocurrency analytics and research.
- Diverse experience investigating cybercrime.
- Familiarity with general data analysis tools such as Looker, Snowflake, and SQL.
- Familiarity with blockchain analysis tools Arkham, Elliptic, Metasleuth, Breadcrumbs.
- Ability to represent Coinbase in public speaking engagements.
