Position Summary

Vertex is seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to join our team as the Senior Director, Global Commercial Strategy – Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing the global commercial strategy for our T1D portfolio. You will work cross-functionally and with external stakeholders to ensure the successful commercialization of innovative therapies that address the unmet needs of patients with T1D.

This is a high-impact role that requires a strong background in global strategic marketing, US market experience, expertise in market development for breakthrough therapies, and the ability to drive strategic initiatives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the global commercial strategy for Vertex’s T1D portfolio, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and market needs.
  • Conduct in-depth market analysis to identify opportunities, challenges, and trends in the T1D therapeutic area.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, medical affairs, regulatory, and market access, to ensure seamless integration of commercial strategies.
  • Drive the development of launch plans, including market segmentation, positioning, pricing, and promotional strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, patient advocacy groups, and industry partners.
  • Provide strategic guidance to regional and local commercial teams to ensure successful execution of global strategies, with a particular focus on the US market.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the T1D portfolio, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Represent the commercial perspective in internal decision-making forums and provide input into clinical development plans.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful global commercial strategies, especially in endocrinology or immunology.
  • Experience in a global strategic marketing function, with a demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategies across multiple geographies.
  • Direct experience in the US market, including a strong understanding of its unique dynamics, stakeholders, and regulatory environment.

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and make data-driven decisions.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience in product launch planning and execution on a global scale.
  • Strong business acumen and financial modeling skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Pay Range:

$228,000 - $342,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Hybrid-Eligible Or On-Site Eligible

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as: 
1.    Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2.    On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.

Note: The Flex status for this position is subject to Vertex’s Policy on Flex @ Vertex Program and may be changed at any time.
