Position Location Details – Upon agreement between you and your Supervisor, you are entitled to a flexible arrangement where you will be able to split your time between working from the office and working remotely.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Responsible for managing the execution of strategic and innovative activities related to the procurement of all ancillary products and services required for hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and renal drugs. Responsible for overseeing contract negotiations for the procurement of supplies, services for cross-divisional Fresenius Medical Care spend, and aligning category strategies with demand owners and stakeholders. Primarily responsible for tactical and category-specific strategic procurement processes for the respective category across FMC. The Sr. Director manages the Category directors as well as category-specific supplier portfolios in line with the overall procurement strategy. This position has strong liaison relationships and may have reporting line responsibilities with other FMC divisions. This position works with management to develop fully integrated global procurement programs, determining scope and objectives, ensuring administrative compliance, and interpreting broad best in class industry standard strategies and philosophies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides strategic leadership of short- and long-term goals through the use of thoughtful techniques in the communication of the company's mission and core values as a means to implement positive change and or create organizational structure within the assigned business unit(s).

  • Manages and optimizes the business unit and or category spend according to the goals set by SVP Procurement / CPO (and or Procurement leadership) and VP Procurement. Defines spend optimization strategies and potentials (i.e., standardization, design-to-cost, bundling, supplier concentration), initiates, supports, and drives decisions. Assures the implementation of defined optimization strategies in coordination with the Procurement leadership and Stakeholder Council; reports according to specified ˜reporting lines.'

  • Establishes and leads teams that strategically manage spending by utilizing a proven sourcing process that engages stakeholders, aligns business objectives, and ensure supply continuity. Leverage supplier capabilities across FMC to meet the near and long-term needs of the business. Ensure robust supplier selection, diligent management of supplier performance issues, and innovative thinking on supplier capability.

  • Benchmarks category (Purchasing conditions, processes) and continuously optimizes procurement processes/ systems and commodity (sub-category) portfolio. Elaborates and deepens the know-how about products, markets, and suppliers inside the category; provides this to the procurement community, and supports scouting for innovations. Monitors the global supplier market for her/his category esp. in terms of global/best cost country sourcing.

  • Identifies risks (e.g., delivery dates, capacities, exchange rates/prices for materials). Evaluates and documents identified risks, development of risk management initiatives, and scenarios. And recommends, when necessary, taking risk controlling measures.

  • Informs internal interfaces about procurement activities and collects feedbacks and derives initiatives in line with strategic requirements. Development and execution of internal marketing strategies for procurement to develop the overall maturity level of organizational understanding for procurement. Responsible for internal customer relationship management of the respective category.

  • Accountable for tactical and category-specific strategic processes for the respective category across FMC, and supporting Source-to-Pay (S2P) processes (S2P includes spend management, vendor onboarding, contract management, and R2P). In collaboration with Procurement Excellence driving standards and procedures implementation from and for her/his category.

  • Measures quality of procurement performance through metrics and feedback from constituent customer groups and aligned FMC Procurement standards. Develop, maintain, promote, and distribute key performance indicators to ensure continuous improvement. Develops and measures KPI's, supplier audits, business reviews, improvement plans, new opportunities, awards, terminations, etc., including savings tracking and ongoing reports and communication to management and stakeholders.

  • Ensures optimal partnerships that facilitate sustainable performance levels with vendors through both formal programs and informal meetings-reviews and drives adoption of FMC's supplier Business Code of Conduct guidelines with respective category suppliers.

  • Reviews and complies with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Ensures all employees within the assigned team(s) understand and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state, and federal laws and regulations, establishing and maintaining adequate internal systems and controls to promote compliance. Ensure that all direct reports within the function set and meet targets that support near and long-term business objectives. Ensure that all team members have priorities that are clear, realistic, and manageable.

  • Regularly travels between locations primarily during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
  • This position requires approximately 25% to 40% travel.

SUPERVISION:

  • May be responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of Procurement and Materials Management staff.
  • Supervise and approve strategic sourcing decisions, as well as approve all major contract negotiations for his/her respective category spend; support and coach direct report staff in negotiating large dollar and complicated contracts. Eliminate barriers and resolve escalated procurement issues. Assertively champion a culture of continuous improvement within the Procurement department.
  • Identifies, recruits, and actively develops skills and competencies required for the future organization. Develops their successor and successors within the Purchasing organization for all levels of management and key individual contributor roles - coach subordinate managers in the delivery of performance feedback and career management for their reports.

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's Degree; Advanced Degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:    

  • 10+ years' related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years' experience as a Director; or 5+ years' experience in a senior managerial role.
  • Strong management skills with the ability to lead cohesive and productive teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of management through diplomacy and tact.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
