About the Opportunity

The Game Design Studio Manager will assist with the day-to-day operations of Northeastern University’s College of Arts, Media & Design (CAMD) Game Studio and Usability Lab within CAMD’s Media Studios Organization (MSO). The Game Design Studio Manager will manage the Game Studio and Usability Lab workflows for the College. They will assist students and faculty with research, instruction, hardware, and software related to these areas. They will also be responsible for working with the Director of the MSO and other College staff on management of the Animation and Game Design classroom labs. They will oversee the operation and maintenance of all gaming, XR, biometric, and eye-tracking technology, as well as regularly inventory all College assets related to gaming, XR, biometric, and eye-tracking. This position is expected to maintain relationships with gaming and XR stakeholders in the College and across the university. In order to be successful, they must have excellent communication and collaboration skillsets and demonstrable leadership experience. In their student-facing position, the Game Design Studio Manager will frequently create tutorials and lead workshops to support curricula in the Game Design program. They may be required to manage student staff. They will also interact with graduate students and should be able to support graduate research activities, as well as facilitate the setup of new research labs. This position may also consult on the creation of new gaming-related labs in the campus network. The Game Design Lab Manager will manage their area’s budget, budget creation, new technology acquisition, technology retirement, purchase orders, deliveries, installation of new technology, and use of the University ProCard. They will advise the Media Studios Organization Director on matters related to the budget, lab spaces, and technical expertise as requested. This position will perform other related projects/duties as needed. This position is required to work outside regular working hours as needed for classes, student meetings, events, maintenance, training, supervision, admissions, and outreach.

The ideal candidate will hold a BA or BS in a related discipline or have at least 5 years of experience in a similar position. The candidate must have strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skill sets. This position will successfully oversee the short- and long-term strategic growth of their labs’ footprints, technological resources, curricular support, and research.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a similar field; or have 3 years of experience in a similar client-facing or customer-centered position. The candidate must have strong problem-solving, communication, and media literacy skill sets. Candidates are not expected to have expertise in all lab technologies, but the willingness to learn new technologies and become a subject matter expert on said technology is crucial. These technologies include AI, eye trackers, physiological sensors, and data collection; AR/VR headsets, game engines (Unity or Unreal), personal computing hardware and software (Windows, MAC, Linux, Adobe Creative Suite); and 360 camera operation. This position will often work with other CAMD Media Studios Organization labs, so a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively is important.

Expected Hiring Range:

$66,851.00 - $94,427.75

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
