About the Role

As we grow, we’re seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Fractional Controller to support our finance operations, including commission processing, employee payroll, and company audit preparation. This role requires a high level of accuracy, discretion, and the ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners. Experience in commission reporting and/or working with technology-focused sales teams is highly preferred, as it provides valuable context for understanding our compensation structures and customer base.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage day-to-day accounting tasks, including reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, and journal entries
  • Accurately process and track commission payments, particularly for Medicare insurance agents or related sales roles
  • Administer employee payroll, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local laws
  • Maintain payroll and commission records; collaborate with HR and sales departments for compensation reporting
  • Prepare and review financial reports and ensure records are audit-ready
  • Support the company audit process, including preparing documentation and working with external auditors
  • Ensure financial practices align with GAAP and internal policies
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
  • Prepare financial accounting for commercial partners
  • Build financial accounting framework for holding company subsidiary
  • Recommend and implement improvements to financial processes and reporting

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an accountant
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll compliance
  • Experience processing commission payments, especially in Medicare insurance sales or related verticals
  • Direct experience administering employee payroll through platforms like Gusto or similar
  • Familiarity with compensation structures common in insurance or financial services sales
  • Experience supporting company audits and liaising with external accountants
  • Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Online or similar) and Google Sheets/Excel.  
  • Ability to improve the automation of data with new software tools 
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Experience in startup or high-growth environments is a plus

Nice to Have:

  • Previous work experience at a technology-enabled company, or fintech company serving financial institutions
  • Familiarity with expense management tools (e.g., Ramp, Expensify, Gusto)
  • Understanding of sales team operations, lead flows, and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot)
