Fractional CFO (2 days/week)

Why AeroShield might be great for you:

AeroShield Materials is building the next generation of super-insulating aerogel window technology to dramatically improve energy efficiency in buildings. As a collaborative deep-tech startup transitioning from advanced R&D into manufacturing scale-up, we are looking for leaders who enjoy solving complex problems while building practical systems that enable growth.

Joining AeroShield means working with a passionate, mission-driven team of about 25 people focused on innovation, sustainability, and strong cross-functional collaboration. We value people who embody our core principles — Value People, Act Sustainably, and Understand & Improve — and who want to help shape how our organization scales.

What we are looking for in a Fractional CFO:

The Fractional CFO will establish AeroShield’s financial operating system during a critical scale-up phase, translating technical, manufacturing, and commercial plans into clear financial strategy. This role combines strategic finance leadership with hands-on operational governance, ensuring strong liquidity visibility, investor-ready reporting, and scalable processes appropriate for a Series A deep-tech environment.

Working closely with the CEO and leadership team, this role provides oversight of outsourced accounting while building lightweight but robust financial systems that support manufacturing growth, fundraising readiness, and commercialization.

Responsibilities of this position include:

Strategic Financial Planning & Modeling

  • Own financial planning processes including forecasting, budgeting, and long-range modeling
  • Integrate manufacturing scale-up assumptions, hiring plans, and commercial strategy into financial models
  • Establish dashboards and reporting structures that support decision-making and investor communication

Cash, Liquidity & Treasury Management

  • Maintain clear visibility into runway, burn rate, and capital allocation
  • Support leadership with treasury strategy, banking relationships, and liquidity planning
  • Introduce scalable treasury policies aligned with Series A operations

Financial Reporting, Governance & Approvals

  • Oversee outsourced accounting partners and ensure quality and compliance
  • Implement structured monthly reporting and budget vs. actual reviews
  • Design approval workflows and financial governance processes that reduce CEO operational load while maintaining financial rigor
  • Lead variance reviews and financial control processes

Manufacturing Economics & Strategic Finance

  • Translate techno-economic analysis and manufacturing assumptions into financial models and pricing strategy
  • Provide structured analysis of capex vs. opex tradeoffs and scaling scenarios
  • Support procurement, facility planning, and commercialization decisions through financial analysis

Board, Investor & Fundraising Support

  • Support board reporting, fundraising narratives, and investor communications
  • Participate in strategic discussions around venture debt, project finance, and commercial agreements
  • Establish scalable investor reporting processes

Grant Finance, Compliance & Operational Support

  • Provide oversight of grant finance structures, compliance workflows, and funding strategies
  • Support facility planning, commercial contract evaluation, and finance-adjacent operational decisions during scale-up
  • Ensure financial processes integrate cleanly with equity administration and HR governance touchpoints
Qualifications:

Many great candidates do not fit a standard blueprint. If you bring relevant experience and are excited about our mission, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every qualification listed.

Required Experience & Skills

  • CPA required; MBA preferred
  • Finance leadership experience in early-stage manufacturing, climate tech, or deep-tech startups
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and liquidity planning capabilities
  • Experience managing outsourced accounting partners or hybrid finance organizations
  • Familiarity with manufacturing cost structures, capex planning, and operational finance governance
  • Board-level communication skills and experience supporting fundraising or investor reporting
  • Experience with grant finance, government programs, or co-development funding structures

Preferred Experience

  • ERP evaluation or implementation exposure
  • Commercial deal structuring or project-finance experience
  • Experience designing finance systems and approval governance in scaling startups

Working Style & Traits

  • Methodical, pragmatic, and low-ego collaborator
  • Comfortable working across technical, commercial, and operational teams
  • Able to balance financial rigor with startup velocity
  • Strong prioritization skills in a fractional executive role
