Position Overview

SingleStore is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to operate at the intersection of solution architecture, technical delivery, and customer partnership. This role combines elements of a solutions architect, technical account manager, and solution engineer, with a strong emphasis on execution.

As an FDE, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor and sounding board for customers, helping them design, implement, and scale real-time data solutions using SingleStore. You will work closely with customers to understand their business objectives, translate them into technical strategies, and drive those solutions into production. This role requires a delivery mindset, strong technical depth, and the ability to lead both strategic conversations and hands-on execution.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Partner directly with customers to understand their architecture, use cases, and business goals, and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
  • Design and implement end-to-end solutions integrating SingleStore into existing application and data ecosystems.
  • Lead whiteboard sessions to shape ideas, define architecture, and convert concepts into technical specifications and execution plans.
  • Act as a proactive thought partner, bringing ideas and guiding conversations rather than reacting to requirements.
  • Own delivery of high-impact initiatives from concept through production, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Provide hands-on support, including troubleshooting, optimization, and applying pragmatic solutions or fixes when needed.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Product, and Engineering teams to align customer needs with product capabilities and roadmap.
  • Help customers prioritize and operationalize their data initiatives, balancing ambition with practical delivery.
  • Feed insights from customer engagements back into Product and Engineering to influence roadmap and improvements.
Your Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in solution architecture, solution engineering, or technical consulting (pre-sales and/or post-sales).
  • Strong foundation in databases, distributed systems, or software engineering.
  • Proven experience delivering production-grade solutions in customer-facing environments.
  • Experience integrating complex systems across data pipelines, applications, and infrastructure.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into clear technical plans and drive execution.
  • Experience working with enterprise customers, particularly in financial services or high-tech environments, is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to guide both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance technical innovation with pragmatic delivery and realistic scoping.
  • Alignment with product capabilities and roadmap, ensuring solutions are both impactful and feasible.

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
