Description

Chaos Labs is building a new AI platform for the enterprise, focused on how organizations operate and create value in an AI-native world. We’re bringing years of experience building applied AI and mission-critical infrastructure to a new category of enterprise software.

Previously, Chaos Labs built the leading risk management platform for on-chain finance, processing more than $5 trillion in financial volume and managing tens of billions of dollars in assets.

We’ve raised $65 million from Haun Ventures, Lightspeed, Galaxy, General Catalyst, Bessemer, F-Prime, PayPal, and others. We’re building with a small team around a technically ambitious problem we believe will become increasingly important as AI reshapes how companies work.

How We Work

Chaos is built around high-agency, high-talent individual contributors. We keep teams small, give people meaningful ownership, and expect them to operate with autonomy, strong judgment, and a high bar for their craft. We hire people who can take an ambiguous, important problem and drive it forward — not just execute against a predefined roadmap. Titles matter less than impact, and the people closest to a problem are trusted to make decisions and own outcomes. We move fast, stay close to the work, and care deeply about building things exceptionally well. Ownership over instruction. Impact over hierarchy.

The Role

We’re hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to own the technical customer journey and turn complex customer problems into production AI solutions that deliver measurable value. This is a high-impact role with significant ownership from day one. You’ll work closely with our VP of Sales, and Engineering teams to take strategic customers from technical discovery and solution design through implementation, production deployment, adoption, and expansion, taking problems from ambiguity through execution and measurable impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Own strategic AI deployments end to end, from discovery and scoping through architecture, implementation, evaluation, production rollout, and adoption.
  • Partner with our commercial team during pre-sales to lead technical discovery, solution design, and validation for strategic customer opportunities.
  • Drive post-sales technical success by leading implementation and integration work that moves customers from initial concept into production.
  • Build production AI systems using LLMs and modern AI models, including model APIs, tool calling, retrieval, and context management, structured outputs, and agentic workflows.
  • Bring customer insight back into the product, identifying patterns across deployments and turning one-off solutions into reusable components, tooling, playbooks, and product capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities, form strong points of view, and turn them into action.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, Founding Engineer, or Product Engineer with meaningful customer ownership.
  • A track record of taking ambiguous customer problems from discovery through production deployment
  • Strong technical and commercial judgment, with the ability to make effective trade-offs across customer needs, product capabilities, and engineering complexity.
  • Proficiency with SQL, APIs, integrations, authentication, cloud infrastructure, and production observability.
  • Ability to write clean code in Python and/or Rust and React/Typescript.
  • Hands-on experience building AI-powered applications, including working with model APIs, context management, tool calling, retrieval, evaluation, and cost-quality-latency tradeoffs.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and taking ownership without waiting for direction.
  • Exceptional standards for your own work and the ability to move quickly without sacrificing quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Flexibility to work remotely. Ability to travel up to 30% of the year to collaborate in person with the team.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate complex technical decisions clearly to both engineering and business audiences.
  • Familiarity with profiling tools and performance optimization techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Benefits

  • Compensation & Equity – competitive package aligned with growth, performance, and merit
  • Career Growth Opportunities – be part of a rapidly expanding, global technology company with room to grow professionally

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
