Karen Clark & Company (KCC) seeks a highly qualified Flood Engineer to join the Model Development Team to work on developing advanced catastrophe reference models. In this position, you will work closely with other scientists and engineers to develop building, contents, and time vulnerability models for both inland and coastal flood perils.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to develop and/or update vulnerability functions for flood models
  • Research existing literature on flood damage from historical events, regional and national building codes, building inventories, construction practices, and damage mitigation measures to accurately characterize flood vulnerability
  • Compile and document related literature and datasets required for model development
  • Conduct model sensitivity and validation tests
  • Provide documentation for technical publications
  • Conduct post disaster field surveys after major events

Qualifications

  • MS in Civil, Structural, Coastal, or Flood Engineering required, PhD a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of and skills in probability and statistical methods
  • Extensive knowledge of the physics of flooding events and the mechanics of building vulnerability to flood
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Experience with remote sensing data is a plus
  • Experience with GIS tools, such as ArcGIS and QGIS desired
  • Experience programming using Arcpy and geospatial tools is a plus
