Company Summary:

Flagship Labs 68 (FL68) is a privately held, well-funded, early-stage biotechnology company that is developing a novel cell therapy platform, which leverages unique cell types and behaviors to perform entirely new therapeutic functions. Fully realized, the FL68 platform technology will tackle a massive spectrum of diseases, drastically extending the reach of cell therapy for human health. We are a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and innovation-driven group seeking collaborative and dedicated people to join our team.

Position Summary:

The Scientist/Sr. Scientist will play a critical hands-on role in developing and optimizing cryopreservation protocols for iPSCs and iPSC-derived cell types, including fragile organoid-like structures and cell aggregates in complex formats. This position focuses on method development and the design and execution of freeze-thaw protocols, which assess the impact of various cryoprotective agents (CPAs) and media formulations. The role involves utilizing functional assays such as flow cytometry, ELISA, PCR, and fluorescence-based methods to evaluate post-thaw cell viability, phenotype, and function. The ideal candidate brings experience with controlled-rate freezing systems and standard analytical instrumentation. While prior experience with stem cells is preferred, it is not required. This position is collaborative and interfaces closely with the analytical, research, and process development teams. Some infrequent weekend work may be required to support time-sensitive experimental timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize cryopreservation and freeze/thaw protocols for iPSCs and iPSC-derived cell types, including sensitive aggregates and organoid-like structures in suspension or embedded formats
  • Evaluate cryoprotective agents (CPAs) and preservation media through functional and phenotypic assays
  • Design and execute assays such as ELISA, flow cytometry, PCR, and fluorescence-based methods to assess post-thaw cell recovery and functionality
  • Operate controlled-rate freezing systems and standard analytical instruments
  • Collaborate closely with analytical, research, and process development teams to support shared experimental goals
  • Analyze experimental data, draw conclusions, and present findings to scientific and leadership teams
  • Maintain clear, timely, and organized documentation of protocols and results in electronic lab notebooks
  • Contribute to a rigorous, curiosity-driven, and execution-focused lab environment, including occasional weekend support for time-sensitive studies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD. in Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Cryobiology, or a related field with relevant hands-on experience
  • Prior experience with iPSC culture is strongly preferred
  • Technical proficiency in analytical methods including ELISA, flow cytometry, PCR, and fluorescent imaging

Flagship Pioneering and our ecosystem companies are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status.

At Flagship, we recognize there is no perfect candidate. If you have some of the experience listed above but not all, please apply anyway. Experience comes in many forms, skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way. We are dedicated to building diverse and inclusive teams and look forward to learning more about your unique background.
