We’re looking for an experienced Firmware Engineering Manager to lead our Firmware Engineering team, responsible for developing and maintaining the embedded software that powers our global fleet of connected micro-mobility vehicles. You will drive innovation while guiding a team of talented firmware engineers to design, implement, and optimize embedded systems that ensure safety, performance, and an exceptional rider experience.
This role combines technical leadership with people management, requiring a solid background in embedded software development and a passion for building scalable and reliable systems.
This is a remote position based in the United States or Canada, with a requirement that the individual hired in this role reside in the Eastern Time Zone.
What You'll Do:
Lead and grow a team of firmware engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
Own the firmware roadmap—define goals, prioritize work, and align deliverables with product, hardware, and operations teams.
Oversee the design, development, and deployment of embedded systems for vehicle control, connectivity, battery management, motor control, and safety features.
Collaborate with hardware, cloud, and mobile teams to ensure seamless end-to-end integration and data flow.
Drive best practices in firmware development, including automated testing, CI/CD, and release management.
Manage resource planning, hiring, and mentorship to scale the team effectively.
Work with cross-functional stakeholders to meet compliance, reliability, and performance standards for mass production.
Stay current with emerging technologies in embedded systems, IoT, and electric mobility to inform strategic decisions.
About You:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
7+ years of experience in embedded systems or firmware development, with at least 2+ years in a lead or management role.
Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded platforms and experience with RTOS and real-time constraints.
Experience with CAN, BLE, LTE, GPS, and other communication protocols.
Familiarity with hardware bring-up, debugging tools, and board-level integration.
Proven ability to deliver production-grade firmware for high-volume consumer or mobility products.
Excellent communication, planning, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in electric vehicle systems, battery management, or micro-mobility
Exposure to IoT frameworks, OTA update systems, and telemetry data pipelines.
Passion for sustainable urban mobility and improving how people move through cities.
