We are seeking a Firmware Engineer to join our team, responsible for developing and optimizing the embedded firmware for the power handle of our surgical stapler. This role will focus on power handle control, integration with other surgical devices, and enhancing the surgeon's workflow. You will play a pivotal role in building a sophisticated, data-driven ecosystem that supports improved surgical outcomes. 

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for a electromechanical surgical stapler.
  • Manage motors, sensors, and other components to ensure precise and reliable operation in surgical environments.
  • Develop features that enable the stapler to communicate with pre-surgical tools and systems for patient-specific setup.
  • Enhance real-time intraoperative data exchange, providing feedback to the surgeon and surgical team on tissue conditions and stapler performance.
  • Integrate sensors to collect and analyze surgical data, optimizing device features and enhancing surgeon interaction.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, software teams, and cross-functional partners, including clinical teams, to align firmware development with real-world surgical needs.
  • Ensure firmware meets regulatory standards, including FDA regulations (21 CFR 820), IEC 62304, and IEC 60601 compliance.
  • Conduct rigorous testing, debugging, and validation to guarantee firmware reliability and safety in the operating room.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, contributing to continuous product improvements based on surgeon feedback and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, with experience in real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Experience with low-level hardware interfacing and embedded systems architecture.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN.
  • Experience in data acquisition and utilizing collected data to enhance medical device performance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail in a highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team.
