The Role

What You’ll Do

As a Firmware Engineer at Transaera, you will play a key role in the development and maintenance of controls firmware for novel heat pump systems. Your contributions will be critical to the operation and reliability of the world’s most efficient HVAC systems that leverage Transaera’s new materials technology. You will contribute to the firmware development, from conceptual design to prototype testing and system optimization. You will support fielded product commissioning and troubleshooting, travelling when needed. This role demands a deep understanding of programming fundamentals, desire to learn, attention to detail, as well as the ability to collaborate with the team and external partners in a fast-paced, startup environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve existing firmware code bases, manage upgrades to existing fielded products and firmware revision roll-outs.

  • Develop UX for field support interface and for end of line (EoL) testing.

  • Work with project management and Firmware Team Lead to develop test plans, execution backlogs, and provide accurate time estimates to complete your tasks.

  • Troubleshoot complex system issues involving hardware, firmware, and software interactions.

  • Support product validation, field testing, deployment activities and field startup support as required.

  • Perform code reviews and adhere to best practices for firmware development.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards for reliability, security, and performance.

  • Support documentation efforts for firmware architecture, test procedures, and engineering reports.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, software, and systems engineering.

What You’ll Bring

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent with strong emphasis on embedded software: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering

  • 1+ years of experience in a firmware, embedded software or related role

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.

  • Familiarity with Git.

  • Excellent communication skills to present technical data and collaborate with internal and external teams.

  • Ability to travel at least 20% of the year.

Preferred but Not Required:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC or thermodynamics.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, etc.

  • Spanish proficiency.

  • Experience with database management.

  • Familiarity with C.Suite or other block diagram and/or structured text programming languages.
