Job Title: Financial and Accounting Operations Manager

Location: Remote (with occasional travel as needed)

Company Overview: At Shaper Capital, we’re on a mission to partner with incredible people to build companies that shape the world. Shaper Capital was founded by Travis May, who led the two biggest data companies created in the last 20 years (LiveRamp and Datavant); we’ve launched seven companies over the past year, creating data businesses that follow similar playbooks across industries.

By joining Shaper today, you’ll be part of a small, ambitious team driven by the belief that the world’s greatest problems have yet to be solved and the most transformative companies have yet to be built. We empower our portfolio companies to create businesses that transform industries, and we believe in hiring individuals who are smart, nice, and get things done. We invest in hiring high potential and humble individuals who thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and can rapidly grow their responsibilities as we reimagine company creation.

Role Overview: We are looking for an ambitious, high-performing Financial and Accounting Operations Manager to oversee the financial infrastructure of Shaper and its portfolio companies. This is a senior, high-visibility role that sits at the intersection of finance, accounting, operations, and execution.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized, analytical operator who can drive both the precision and the velocity of our financial engine — ensuring accuracy, compliance, and scale as Shaper and its portfolio continue to grow.

You’ll work closely with Shaper’s CFO, as well as portfolio company leadership, to manage accounting, payroll, equity administration, and shared financial systems. This is a role for someone who thrives on creating clarity, improving systems, and helping founders focus on building. This role requires someone who thrives in early-stage environments, is able to fluidly context-switch, is eager to solve complex financial challenges, and is comfortable operating both at a strategic level and in the financial and accounting trenches.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Finance

  • Oversee accounting and financial operations across Shaper and its portfolio companies, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closes for portfolio companies and Shaper
  • Where applicable, partner with external accounting firms to support audits, closes, and tax filings.
  • Manage shared financial tools and systems — including QuickBooks, Ramp, Mercury, Carta, Brex, and Rippling — and drive process improvements.
  • Support portfolio companies during launch and scale phases with setup and ongoing finance support (e.g., accounting, vendor management, bill pay, cash forecasting).

Payroll & Compensation

  • Lead end-to-end payroll operations for Shaper and select portfolio companies, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate payroll changes, bonuses, and adjustments with finance and HR stakeholders.
  • Oversee integration and automation across payroll and financial systems to increase efficiency.

Equity Administration

  • Support equity programs for Shaper and its portfolio companies through Carta, including issuance, tracking, and compliance.
  • Partner with legal and finance to maintain accurate records for SAFEs, stock options, and equity grants.
  • Develop scalable processes and templates for new company launches and ongoing equity operations.
  • Support reporting and communication to ensure founders and employees understand their equity positions.

Cross-Functional & Strategic

  • Collaborate with the CFO to ensure sustainable financial operations across all Shaper companies.
  • Lead special projects to improve automation, financial visibility, and reporting.
  • Support fundraising and investor reporting through diligence prep and documentation.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to portfolio company leadership on operational finance matters.

Key Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in finance operations, accounting, or business operations at a high-growth startup or venture-backed company.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll, and equity management.
  • Command of QuickBooks including invoicing, automated data connections, and manual journal entries
  • Hands-on experience with systems such as Carta, Rippling, Gusto, Ramp, or Brex.
  • Exceptional analytical and project management skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Proven ability to operate autonomously, manage multiple priorities, and communicate clearly.
  • Sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.

Culture Fit and Mindset:

  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for building from scratch.
  • You're excited to be part of a finance team and to spend much of your time doing accounting work.
  • You move fast, execute thoughtfully, and thrive in high-velocity environments.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to operate effectively with limited direction.
  • You love improving systems and processes that scale.
  • You’re collaborative, humble, and thrive in a low-ego, high-performance culture.
  • You bring a founder’s mindset to your work — always looking to increase leverage and impact.
  • High integrity and a strong moral compass.
  • You embody Shaper’s core traits: smart, nice, and gets things done.

What We Offer:

  • A chance to shape how Shaper and its companies operate at scale.
  • The opportunity to work directly with world-class founders, operators, and investors.
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits package.
  • A fast-paced, high-trust environment that rewards ownership and initiative.
  • The ability to grow with Shaper as we continue to launch and build category-defining companies.
  • A dynamic, fast-paced environment where your impact is immediate and meaningful.
  • Competitive salary, equity, and benefits package.
  • The chance to work alongside some of the brightest minds in venture and entrepreneurship.

How to Apply: Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you are excited about this opportunity.
