We are building our first dedicated Strategic Finance function and are seeking a Strategic Finance Lead to take full, end-to-end ownership of mapping and analyzing all finance-related operational workflows. This role reports directly to the Chief of Staff of Revenue & Finance and is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
This role goes beyond documentation; it requires someone who can earn the trust of Operations leaders, understand how the business runs in extreme detail, and transform messy marketplace data into sound strategic decision-making that’s grounded in financial clarity.
This team has a uniquely cross-functional vantage point, with visibility into how every team, revenue stream, and area of spend fits together. You will help shape how Clipboard evaluates investments, sets ROI thresholds, and adjusts operational processes to improve efficiency.
The ideal candidate is rigorous and detail-oriented, but just as comfortable stepping back to see the full picture and engaging with senior leaders on how financial decisions should get made. We think of this team as financial generalists - wicked smart, deeply curious, and with the judgment to know when to go deep and when to zoom out.
Partner closely with Finance, Operations, Engineering, and other teams to align upstream and downstream processes and resolve points of friction or ambiguity.
Leverage a uniquely cross-functional vantage point to surface insights that siloed teams are unable to see and set the strategic direction for the company, verticals, and departments.
Synthesize findings from process analysis and operational data into clear, concise recommendations for senior leadership. This will include identifying inefficiencies, risks, control gaps, and inconsistencies across the full process lifecycle and providing structured, data-backed recommendations.
Analyze how each workflow, input, and operational decision impacts financial reporting, forecasting, reconciliation, and downstream accuracy.
Build detailed documentation, process models, and operational frameworks that bring clarity and visibility to how financial information flows through the organization.
Support Finance leadership with deep-dive investigations, root-cause analyses, and redesign efforts for high-impact or complex workflows.
Work independently on complex operational problems, ensuring all conclusions and documentation meet a high standard of detail, accuracy, and precision.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in strategic finance, financial operations, management consulting, or similar analytical roles.
Ability to independently structure complex problems, synthesize data, and surface insights with clarity and accuracy.
Strong foundation in financial analysis, including forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and cost structure assessment.
Proficiency in SQL, with the ability to extract, interrogate, and validate financial and operational data sets.
Experience working closely with Finance teams and familiarity with financial systems, ERP workflows, and operational drivers of financial statements.
Comfort operating in fast-paced, systems-heavy, or complex business environments; marketplace or high-growth experience is a plus.
Proven ability to map end-to-end financial processes with precision, including data flows, system touch points, and control points.
Clear visibility into the operational drivers behind financial outcomes, supported by accurate mapping of processes, dependencies, and root causes of any discrepancies or inefficiencies.
Stronger cross-functional alignment through detailed documentation, clarified ownership, and a shared understanding of how financial information flows through systems and teams.
Operations and business leaders actively seeking out this individual’s perspective before making major decisions because of developed rapport and trust
Measurable improvements in financial accuracy, workflow discipline, and organizational clarity, reflected in cleaner reporting, fewer variances, and more predictable financial operations.
