The Town of Brookline is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Finance Assistant to join our Treasury Department. This position provides important clerical and financial support, including processing payments, assisting with reconciliations, and handling a variety of accounting and administrative tasks. ResponsibilitiesAs a Finance Assistant, you will:
- Audit, post, and process payments for Real Estate, Personal Property, Water, Refuse, Tax Titles, and Deferrals.
- Balance and deposit daily receipts, verify and process cash payments, and maintain accounting records.
- Assist with monthly bank reconciliations, vendor payments, ACH transfers, and wire submissions.
- Research and resolve payment discrepancies, misapplied payments, and billing issues.
- Provide assistance to taxpayers, mortgage companies, law firms, and Town departments regarding payments and account status.
- Support the Treasurer/Collector’s Office with data entry, tax title research, supply management, and general administrative functions.
- Cross-train to assist other Finance Department staff as needed; performs all other duties as needed.
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required; Bachelor’s degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- At least two years of relevant office, municipal, or banking experience with accounts receivable, bank statements, and deposits.
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, office procedures, and financial software (MUNIS, VADAR, Excel, Word).
- Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the public.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
